two messages popped up on nari's phone. she was practically torn between the two. should she text either one of them? both of them? or none of them. it was a decision hard to make.
she laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling, the shadows of snowflakes falling from outside her window was reflected on the walls.
nari listened to the sound of nothing, only her heart beating. beating for the two of the boys. she knew that she had feelings for lucas, but why was her heart beating for mark?
why was her heart beating so fast for her best friend? she knew for a fact that she does not reciprocate the feelings that mark has for her.
so what's the reason for nari's heart to beat fast at the thought of mark lee?
was it because of the kiss that they both shared? the fact that his lips touched hers? she felt embarrassed whenever she thought of it. maybe that's why her heart was beating fast for him. it wasnt like as if she has been thinking about kissing her bestfriend. it's just, she felt weird now.
as hypocritical as she may seem or think, nari just felt like putting on a coat and go over to mark's place and kiss him right back. not out of feelings, but out of sympathy. but that's selfish of her. she knew it was bad of her to think that way. to only leave him with that kiss. meanwhile she continues dreaming of lucas.
she stared at mark's text. she sighed. she knew what he was going to text next. / i'm sorry / is what he's going to text. that's mark lee for you. he always apologizes for things that doesnt even deserve to be apologized for.
but what about lucas? what was lucas going to say next? / youre just a rebound lol / ? or is it going to be / i loved how you were wrapped along my long fucking fingers/ ?
either way, nari knew lucas wasnt going to apologize. it's wong yukhei, right? the jerk who plays with hearts of other women.
somehow deep down, nari just -maybe- wished that lucas was going to say, / i'm really sorry, can i meet you? /. deep down, nari hoped that it would be that lucas that she met earlier that year.
the same lucas that texts her good morning every day without fail. the same lucas that kisses her forehead as a form of hello everytime they secretly meet. the same lucas that said 'i love you' to her and meant it.
well, almost, meant it. because if he really did mean it, they wouldnt end up in this position.
the same lucas that she fell in love with.
without thinking, nari just dozed off. and no one will know this about her, but that night, nari dreamt of lucas.
[ the next day ]
nari stuffed her toast into her mouth while locking her front door. she was about to walk to school alone since she didnt have mark, who always goes to school with her. just when she turned around, a huge black van parked right in front of her doorstep. nari gasped.
she thought something bad was about to happen to her. but when the tinted windows rolled down, she saw daniel. a friend of jihoon's. she squinted her eyes and tilted forward, she knew daniel but she didnt really know him, you know?
so daniel just winked and gestured her into the car. nari shook her head, she barely knew him. but right when she wanted to walk away, jihoon got out of the car, and there were 10 heads popping out of the car. nari's facial expressions changed.
her eyes lit up and she immediately wrapped her arms around jihoon's neck and gave him a quick hug, excited to see him. she never thought that jihoon would ever be there for her early in the morning at her doorstep. it was a miracle.
jihoon's friends just awed at the sight of the two of them but jihoon rolled his eyes. he jokingly pushed her away, because in his group of friends, he was supposed to be manly. but nari just pouted. "surprised to see me? daniel decided to send us to school," jihoon exclaimed.
"let's go!" he smiled while taking nari's bag and carrying it for her, helping her up into the gigantic van. as daniel drives to their school, the ride was very hectic. jihoon's older brothers were all teasing jihoon for having a girl space friend. they all got to know each other better within 10 minutes.
jihoon was surprised that she could mix well with his friends. "well, we're here," daniel smiled and parked the van infront of the entrance. nari bid them goodbye and woojin offered to walk her out of the van.
when she was gone, the boys all gave jihoon the same look. jihoon just raised his eyebrow, his fingers running through his messy hair. "is anyone gonna say it? cause if youre not, i will!" jinyoung just blurted out.
the boys laughed while jihoon remained confused. "jihoon ah, your hyungs think you should date her," jisung smiled, then looking at jihoon in the eyes, they really meant what he said.
jihoon laughed, "shes one of a kind, huh?" he told them. as he eyed nari walking towards the school gate with woojin. "but shes taken, sorry boys!" jihoon pursed his lips before punching guanlin in his shoulder, then ruffling his hair and bidding his friends goodbye.
as jihoon adjusted his bag strap and uniform, he looks at nari and smiles to himself. "lucas is a lucky son of a bitch," he muttered to himself. he really did mean it. he shook off that thought and ran over to her, walking her to school.

school passed super fast, nari had no idea why. and it was surprising, the fact that she didnt stumble upon lucas or mark. although she did still get weird stares, she never really saw lucas or his friends. she was curious, of course.
but as when she was about to leave the class, she got pulled by a bunch of girls, girls who were no doubt whipped for lucas wong. they were the same girls that snickered at nari during lunch.
she got pulled into the corner. "your time is over, nari ah," the girl with the brown hair sternly said, nari laughed out loud. "what the hell is that suppose to mean?" she blurted out, trying to play it off cool.
the rest of the girls laughed. "youre a slut, you know that? being with lucas then with jihoon. we heard you were dating mark the same time you went out with lucas too," the girl with the black ponytail uttered.
nari's eyes widened, she couldnt believe what she just heard — utter bullshit. "what? mark and jihoon are my best friends," she didnt even try to convince them. she didnt need to. she knew what was going on in her life.
when the girl with the brown hair stepped up, she was about to yell at nari and wanted to tell her to stay away from lucas. her hand almost reaching nari's cheek, she was stopped.
stopped by someone — and who else could it be? wong yukhei. he just finished running his rounds for his training. he was sweating like crazy, his hair messy, dripping with sweat, his eyebrows furrowed.
the girls jumped, shocked. "l-lucas," they all cowardly whispered, looking down, shy to look into his eyes. nari did the same, actually, total opposite. while lucas had his eyes on the girls who were taunting nari, nari had her eyes on lucas and only lucas.
her heart beat fast. again. for the thousandth time. all she could do was act like she was okay, okay without him in her life. when it was totally the other way round.
"go away, now," was what lucas said that had the girls running off somewhere. there stood the two of them, it was so awkward, the sound of nothing. just the sound of their heartbeats beating simultaneously, but they cant hear it.
lucas grabbed nari by her wrist, but she yanked it away. "i couldve been fine by myself," she said. lucas smirked, letting out an effortless laugh. he grinned, "youre really one of a kind, chae nari. a thank you would be nice,"
nari laughed, "a sincere apology would be better, dont you think?" sarcastically. lucas shuts himself up. he didnt know what to say. just then, jihoon saw nari talking to lucas, and he interrupted. "hey," he blurted out.
nari and lucas looked at jihoon standing in the middle of them, hands in his pocket. "ready to go?" jihoon asked, gesturing outside, where a van was waiting, his friends, again.
she took one last glance at lucas before walking off, without saying a word. "you never gave me the chance, chae nari!" lucas yelled as her back grew further apart from him.
and soon, she disappeared. lucas was so angry at himself. his ego took over him. hes so angry at how he didnt take the chance to apologize. instead, he treated her like one of the girls he toys around.
he groaned in frustration, before kicking the lockers. he punched the locker door, "when will be the next time i see you?" he asked himself. a question that's hard to answer for the time being.
