Prompt: Map and Spade meet on a blind date
Word count: 1158
It wasn't a secret Map was gay. Nor was it a secret who he liked. Which, to no surprise at all, was his best friend.
He had originally came out to Spade and his sister a long time ago, in which Spade laughed and proceeded to come out himself. It went quite smoothly, honestly.
Although, telling your crushes sister you have a crush on her brother and desired a relationship was not so easy.
It wasn't like Bucket was disgusted or anything, she actually admitted she had been suspecting it for a while. But, she did comment that Map had "a bad taste in men"
It wasn't surprising nor was it false.
But what was surprising was the surprise visit Bucket paid to his...Box? Could you call it a home? I mean it was just a box.
Anyways,
Bucket arrived at the box, and to no surprise at all, Map was passed out inside of it. He didn't really worry about things being stolen. I mean, what're they going to steal? A dirty box?
"Map,"
No answer, but a not-so-gentle kick from Bucket startled him away "h-hUH-"
"Map!" She grinned, looking down at him. "Bucket?" Map rubbed his eyes and sat up, looking up at the other. He was...quite confused.
"So, I may have or may have not done you a small favor,"
"What?"
He huffed, Bucket doing favors was a very rare thing.
"So, you know how you told me you wanted a relationship,"
"Mhm,"
"I may have set up a blind date-"
"-wITH SPADE?-" Maps face heated up. He didn't know if that was a good thing or not.
"No! No, chill."
He frowned, he wasn't the type of person to do this type of stuff with strangers. But hey, some other company may be nice.
"...You know I don't have any money, right?"
"What?"
"To...To pay, I have no money."
"Well, they should have money to pay. So, don't worry about it."
She didn't sound so friendly saying that.
"Alright... When is it?"
"Now,"
"wHAT-"
~~~
Spade was currently sitting in...some restaurant. He didn't know which one, except they had some bomb nachos.
His sister had brought him here for... a date?
A date.
Well, A blind date, His sister was bringing someone here who she guaranteed liked him.
Eugh, he could remember the last time he went on a date. Didn't end well. High school was a rough time for him.
Dang, he hasn't been on one of these ever since high school. Doesn't mean he's... unlovable. He just hasn't found anyone as cool as him!
Yea.
He huffed, drawing circles on the table with his finger. He's been waiting at least 10 minutes and was getting quite impatient. He didn't really care whoever this mysterious object he was supposed to go on a date with anymore. He was hungry.
Ding
He turned around to face the door to see who entered. It was Bucket and Map, which meant he could finally eat. Thank god!
Wait..
"Oh my god.."
Map. Goddamn Map.
Map froze in place when he saw Spade, a dark blush spreading across his face "Bucket, you lied!-..."
When he turned to face her, she was no longer there. It felt as his his nerves were going to bust. A headache began to form.
Map uncomfortably walked over to the table, sitting across from Spade. Who's blush wasn't so obvious as Maps.
"Uh, Bucket didn't tell me it was," Map swallowed, hard "going to be you here."
"Yeah, I didn't expect you to be the one coming here."
Silence. The two really didn't know how to feel. This was the first time they've ever had a moment this awkward. Well, other then when they first met.
Spade huffed "...Anyways, let get food. I'm hungry!"
Just play it off cool. It was a thing he went by in high school when he went on dates. Even though...none of them worked out.
"Yea! Yea."
This time, it worked quite well. The awkwardness had passed in a short amount of time. Spade ordering nachos and Map just ordering a drink, stealing some of Spades nachos. Laughing and small bickering erupting from the table. It was fun and light hearted. Map had completely forgotten about this being a date.
It wouldn't leave Spades head, though. From what his Sister had told him, Map had a crush on him. It was something he couldn't wrap his head around.
"Hey, Map,"
Map pulled the straw out of his mouth, looking up at him. "Yea?"
"What did Bucket tell you to get you here?"
His nervousness came back once again, holding the cup in his hands
"Well, She just said she set up a blind date for me. It was...odd, to say the least."
"She didn't say anything about crushes or weird things like that, right?"
"...hm, no."
Spade stayed quite, thinking.
"Did she to you?.."
"Well, uh,"
"She did, didn't she?"
Map sounded... hurt? Scared? Spade couldn't quite put his finger on a specific emotion.
"I don't want to lie to you, bud. Yea."
Map covered his face with his hands and groaned. If he could, he would bawl his eyes out right now. "God, I'm so sorry, Spade. I can't help it, and if you just walk out right now I would understand-"
"Woah!" Spade let off a laugh "Chill out! You don't gotta be sorry about that!"
"But aren't you like...disgusted?...or something?"
"What? No! You've been with me through thick and thin, Map! I can see where you would gain an attraction towards me," he grinned "Who wouldn't?"
"Psh," Map huffed and whipped his face.
"Anyways, I think you're cool."
Map let off a small laugh "What?"
"Er..." Spade huffed "A relationship sounds cool, I mean." It surely wasn't the...best way to ask someone out. But hey, it's Spade, why do you expect?
"Wait, you mean..."
Spade was trying oh so hard to 'play it cool', while Map was ecstatic.
"Boyfriends?" Map asked
"Yea,"
"Oh, uh, alright, yea!"
Map grinned while Spade smiled. A bubbly feeling arose in Spade, his face heating up ever so slowly.
After some silence, the two taking in that they were actually dating. Spade asked "So, you have any money?"
"What? No, I thought you'd have money..."
"No! I don't even have a job! Why would I have money?"
"And I'm homeless, why would I have money?"
Spade huffed, thinking "Well, there's only one way out of this."
"Wait, Spade we're not going to do that!"
Of course, Spade wasn't going to listen. He stood up, grabbed Maps hand and pulled him up out of the chair.
"We run in 3,"
"This isn't a good idea!"
"2,"
"Spade,"
"1!"
"sPADE I DONT WANT TO GO TO JAIL!"
And with that, the two ran out, hand in hand, with employees from the restaurant yelling and running after them.
What a date!
