"Y/n, girl, do me a quick favour and pretend like it's your birthday today." B/f/n whispered lowly into her phone. I sighed on the other end of the line, unknowing of what the pinkette was currently going through.
I just woke up from the abrupt sound of my phone ringing. I was too groggy to check the caller id and just picked up, wanting to tell whoever called to leave me alone. However the person turned out to be B/f/n so I cleared my throat. I assumed that my best friend was putting me on speaker so I prepared my act.
"B/f/n! You promised me that we'd go out for my birthday~," I started, dragging out the last word with a whine that I learned to perfect over the years of being friends with B/f/n. "What happened to the promise that you'd treat me to boba?" I whined out.
"Sorry girl, I wish I could but my dad's holding me back again." After hearing that sentence I knew that B/f/n wanted to escape from whatever crazy plan her dad set up. So, I decided to attack his soft spot, his personality.
"Wow, he's such a jerk. It's been so long since we last met up and now he's keeping you away from me? On my birthday? I'll never forgive him!" I huffed out in anger. I smirked a little, hearing a man's voice talking to B/f/n. Truth be told, today's not my birthday. However, B/f/n's dad cares very little for his daughter's friends that he doesn't remember anyone's.
"I'm sorry, honey. Go spend time with your friend, I'll sort something out." My smirk grew bigger upon hearing that out plan was a success. I could also imagine the pinkette grinning ear to ear glad that she was open to do whatever for the day.
"Thank you!" With that, I assumed her father ran off to do whatever needed to be done. "Thanks Y/n." B/f/n breathed out minutes later.
"Yeah yeah, but I wasn't lying when I said you're treating me to boba." I laughed out.
"What?" She exclaimed.
"You owe me for that stunt we just pulled, plus wouldn't your dad get suspicious?" I hear B/f/n groan out and I knew she caved in. I was happy I was going to get a free drink.
"Fine fine. Let's head to Horizons then. A friend of mine said they're still open." I smiled in relief and started bubbling with excitement. I then started going through my closet, trying to find an acceptable outfit for pictures. Fake birthday meant pictures so her dad would believe it.
"Sounds like a plan. Meet you there." I said. B/f/n hung up and I pulled out an article of clothing. I decided on an off shoulder black romper with a floral pattern with black flats to match. I also grabbed a pair of black sunglasses who's frame was shaped like large cat eyes. I grabbed a sling bag that matched the colour of the flowers and headed out.
I set out feeling much better dressed than the last time I went out to Horizons with B/f/n. I wondered about what outfit she would pull into. My question was answered soon enough when I arrived at the cozy cafe seeing B/f/n sitting on a table on the right side.
She sat there sitting with her legs crossed sipping her milk tea. The pinkette wore a knee length black skirt with a collared white shirt. It was topped off with a brown jacket that matched with her brown heels. Her hair was pulled into a messy bun which didn't actually look messy.
"Well someone's looking fancy." I called out as I slid into the chair across my best friend. She laughed and placed my own milk tea in front of me. I hummed happily as I took a sip of the beverage.
"I just got out of a fancy date thanks to you. Plus I was too lazy to change out since I put a lot of effort getting into this skirt."
"Ah, so that's why you wanted me to pretend that it was my birthday."
"Well it might as well be 'cause I'm still testing you!" I laughed out and played with the straw that floated inside the cup. "Besides, you're all dressed up too."
"Well I thought we'd have to take pictures so we have 'evidence'" I replied. B/f/n nodded and then proceeded to take her phone out.
"Good thinking. 'Kay, say cheese." B/f/' said pointing her phone camera to me. I started to pose with my drink and painted a smile across my face.
"Let me see!" I said immediately after. B/f/n flipped her phone which I noticed was a latest model and I admired the quality of the camera.
"It's a good one ain't it?" The pinkette said proudly. I nodded and proceeded to drink my boba.
"Yeah it is. Okay but now that that's over with, I want answers." I said semi-seriously. B/f/n lifted an eyebrow as a response, questioning what I may ask. "Last time, you didn't tell me who this special someone is!" I exclaimed. B/f/n chuckled and took a sip of her own milk tea.
"He's no one important. All that matters is that he's not the one my dad's trying to set me up with." I nodded, deciding that if B/f/n wanted to keep this guy a secret, then it will be one. She would tell me on her own time.
"Who's the guy this time?" I asked. Immediately, I saw anger and annoyance started filling her eyes. I started recalling our dms on Instagram and wondered if it the same guy.
"He's different then the one last week. He's nicer than that one, but too nice. He follows me around like a lost puppy and will do anything I want."
"Isn't that a good thing?"
"Maybe, but he follows me everywhere! My dad had to physically lock him away so he wouldn't follow me here." I shuddered upon imagining that scene.
"I see what you mean." I said softly, still shook from that scenario.
"He means well, but this guy's not the one." B/f/n tapped her nails upon the table, seemingly in deep thought. "Think I'll ever get married before my old man passes?" Normally I'd respond with a 'Not with your personality, you bully' however this time was different. I could tell that B/f/n asked this seriously and wanted a serious answer. So I took a bit of time debating upon the right words.
"It hard to say. I mean, even myself I debate if I'll even find a guy who'll like me back. But I'm sure that you'll find someone with that outgoing personality of yours. Plus, you have a great sense of fashion!"
"Thanks Y/n." B/f/n said with a warm smile. I smiled back and resumed to our light conversation, catching up with each other.
Afterwards, we threw out our now empty cups of milk tea and headed out the door, the small bell ringing behind us. B/f/n wanted to head to the bus stop and go to a park for
more pictures. So, we waited at the intersection until the light turned red and the walking symbol was visible. I started crossing the road when I was harshly pulled back.
"Slow down Y/n!" B/f/n yelled at me. I looked at her in confusion and saw her point down the road. Soon enough, I saw a car zooming past the speed limit and it raced past us despite the red light. I would've almost been in an accident if it weren't for B/f/n. I didn't even see the car.
"Thanks." I breathed out, grateful that I didn't land in a hospital. B/f/n nodded and started crossing. While she did, she stared off at the direction of car with an expression in her eyes that was unknown to me.
Once safely across, we made our way to sit down on the bus station. We sat down on the
metal bench that was warmed by the hot
summer sun. I started fiddling with the straps of my bag as we awaited the bus's arrival.
"That was scary." I said lowly, still unbelieving what might've happened. B/f/n had darkened eyes, yet looked at me worried.
"What were you thinking! Look both ways before you cross, idiot!" I received a slap in the back of the head, however I laughed out instead of the normal cry of pain.
"Sorry! I was just excited because we haven't really caught up like this. Plus we're going to have amazing photos." I exclaimed. B/f/n chuckled and soon enough the bus pulled in.
After arriving at the park, B/f/n and I took numerous photos, each one aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It was a long day, however it was one well spent. We soon split way and ended the day in our own homes. However, my day was ended the same way it started, with a call from B/f/n.
"Thanks again girl for getting me out of a cringy date." The pinkette started.
"No problem. I mean, I got free boba."
"At the cost of almost ending up hospitalized."
"Yeah, but I wasn't. What was with the driver anyways?"
"Drunk driving?"
"Maybe. I'm just glad you stopped me from going across."
"Well there ain't no way in hell in letting you die." I chuckled at that response and started tucking myself into bed.
"True true."
"Well, I have to go, plus I think you're getting tired." I nodded, fully aware that my best friend couldn't see me.
"Yeah, I'm going to call it a day now. Night B/f/!c have fun with whatever his name is." I said, referring to the new suggestion for a partner B/f/n's dad has.
"Don't even remind me of him. Stupid Ein."
"Oh so Ein's his name?"
"Yeah but don't simmer on that for long. As soon as something bad happens, he'll be gone."
"I'm sure of it."
"Yeah, well, night Y/n."
"Night B/f/n." And so, I hung up on her and placed my phone in my bedside table. I plugged it in to charge and closed my eyes. Took awhile for me to sleep, however I welcomed it when it did finally come. Today was well spent besides the assumingely drunk driver that almost knocked me unconscious.
