snippet for chapter 13 of new fanfic:
"Thief!" he shouted, his voice rising in both pitch and volume as he waved his arms wildly, his face contorted in anger. People around him paused, turning their heads, and the noise around the marketplace dimmed just slightly, as all eyes moved to the merchant’s target.
"Get that stupid cat!" Another merchant, a burly man with a scruffy beard, bellowed out in a voice thick with irritation. His finger stabbed in the direction of the ‘thief,’ clearly intending to point out the culprit. The finger swept over the crowd, but the focus was on a small, nimble figure darting between the stalls, unmistakably feline in its agility. The blur of movement was unmistakable—Doppel, in all her mischievous glory.
Doppel, the mischievous cat faunus, had apparently struck again. Her lithe form was almost impossible to track as she moved swiftly through the marketplace. With an impish grin plastered on her face, she held in her mouth not one, but ten large fish—each one flopping helplessly from her mouth, its fins flapping wildly as she ran with a gleeful abandon. She barely made a sound as her paws hit the ground, her body a blur of speed and feline grace, and then came the sound that could only be described as her signature cackling laughter.
"Nyahahahahah!" She laughed, her voice bubbling with delight as she carried her stolen bounty away with ease. Her body, only about four feet tall, zipped between the stalls and into a small alleyway, heading straight for a vent on the side of a nearby building. With one last glance back, her golden eyes shone with a devilish glint before she disappeared into the vent with the fish still clutched tightly in her mouth.
The nearby fishermen, who had been trying to keep an eye on their fish market, cursed loudly in frustration. One of them, an older man with a weathered face and a fishing rod slung over his shoulder, waved his hands in the air as he bellowed, "That damn cat is in the vents again!"
