in today's episode of izia definitely doesn't know what a hiatus is / complaining: do not write poc characters (especially black ones), just for the sake of writing poc characters... it honestly shows :standing emoji:
unless it's some fantasy world, it won't really matter to be honest (depends again on which) but, you can't write an oc whose only "poc traits" are their skin color/names/or whatever generalisation.
i agree that we all want a better world without any injustice, but you can't afford to just erase years, even centuries of discrimination just because you don't want to deal with that. poc can't afford to forget about it, so nor should you.
i'm not saying you have to heavily write about discrimination your oc may face, but keep in mind that is something that exists, subtly. and even though, it is something that is internalised. as a poc, when someone compliments you and seems surprised, you just know that they're trying their best to not say "i wasn't expecting that from people like you". or even as a black girl, i may know my worth, i may receive compliments, but i know that for a lot of people, i'm not going to be viewed as "the first choice" whether it be romantically, professionally, etc and it weighs heavily on my choices whether i want it or not
just saying, if you have poc ocs in today's world—make them fully poc, not half, not a quarter, fully. every aspect in their lives will sadly be connected to this, so don't forget it. and when poc authors talk to you about something related to your portrayal, please (shut up) and listen to them, instagram posts don't make you experts on discrimination!! (i hate people like that)
i won't name anyone, but that was just me ranting (again. atp let's just say i'm on semi-hiatus)
ps: AND STOP THINKING BLACK PEOPLE ARE ALL THE SAME CULTURALLY!! BLACK AFRICANS AND BLACK AMERICANS HAVE CENTURIES OF (FORCED) DIVISION BETWEEN THEM!!!
