Welcome back, Sleepies! (Should that be y'all's fan-names since my username is ILive4Sleep? Tell me if you like it or not... Maybe Sleepyheads instead? Or just nothing. I don't want to be cringey.)

Also, if you've made it all the way to this 25th chapter, then you're quite dedicated. 🙌

"Laf? Can I talk to you about something?"

He stopped his writing at his desk and turned to face me at the sound of my voice. "Bien sûr, what it is?"

"During that time I spent recovering, I had a lot of time alone to think, and so I just have a few questions, and I'm curious," I stated as I made my way to sit on the bed.

I laid down as he brought his chair over. This felt like a therapy session.

"Um, well first, if anything is too imposing, you don't have to answer..."

"Look, I don't have any deep, dark secrets. Ask anything you want."

"Well, I was just a bit confused as to why you, a Frenchman, would come to help America win their independence. I mean, do you have other business here along with this? Did you have a different reason for coming to America, but you changed your mind to join?"

"The war was my primary motive for voyaging," he answered proudly. "You see, I come from a long line of great military officers, and I was already an officer in France when I was 13."

"Wow, bragging much?" I laughed. When I was thirteen, I had just begun to learn how to deal with angry customers at the tailor shop.

He crossed his arms. "You're the one that asked."

"So why? Did you want to lead our country to glory? Everybody chanting your name at the end of the war?" I asked playfully.

"Oui, that doesn't sound too bad at all... mais, I did it because it was such a noble cause. I know what it's like to be living under a strict monarchy, and I knew America had a chance of being freed, and I wanted to help the best I could with that."

"I see... That's so great of you... So what happens if we win?" I asked while sitting up.

"I go back to France," he sighed but smiled. "I'll bring freedom to my people if I'm given the chance."

"Hey, look, if we manage to handle our financial situation, we'll be more than happy to help," I gave a warm smile.

"Sounds like a plan. If not, at least I get to see a good friend again one more time there," he shrugged.

"May I ask who?" I inquired.

"Uh, he's your country's ambassador. How are you supposed to make history when you don't even know what's going on yourself?" He scoffed playfully.

I lightly hit him in the arm. "Well, if you'd recall from the night you and Alex spied on John and me, then you'll remember I never got a proper education. All the focus from where I worked was always about the British in Boston and New York; none about our international ties."
