The King sat in his throne room fully armored for battle. Ten legions of Alukai were laying siege to the castle in which the king sat. Hundreds of elves had been slaughtered. There had been a diversion battle on a plain a good three days march from the castle. So there was no real defense.

The Alukai were bug like creatures with a hard, brown exoskeleton that served as armor. They walked upright on two legs and had a basic human shape. The male Alukai had a knife like bone that protruded from their right wrist. All Alukai had a sharp spike that grew out of their elbows and curved up.

The King felt sure that his time to die was drawing near, but he did not fear it, in fact he longed for it. Ever since his wife had been killed, the only reason the King did not put knife to throat was his daughter. The King thought back to the time when the Alukai had killed his wife.

He was at his summer palace. He and his wife had gone hunting wild game. It was a happy time; laughter flowed freely through the air. The land was green, fertile, and fruit bearing trees were abundant. It was only a small hunting party, two servants and the royal family. As they were hunting, an Alukai jumped from behind a tree and fired a bolt from a crude crossbow at the king. The bolt curved with the breeze and pierced the queen's heart. The King then filled with a terrible blood lust, drew his sword. He began to duel the Alukai. When he was done the Alukai looked as though a butcher had practiced on it. The King ran back to his wife, He surveyed the wound in her chest. It was a fatal hit. The Queen gasped out her final words, "Look after our daughter!" Then her chest ceased to rise and fall as befits a living creature. The King declared war against the entire race of Alukia.

The King jolted back to awareness finding a servant tugging at his sleeve. "I have your sword your majesty." The King took his sword and dismissed the servant. Several moments passed and then the king heard a banging sound at the door. The door suddenly split apart as an Alukai strode in.

The King flung his dagger. It pierced the Alukai through his neck.  The Alukia collapsed to the floor and made several gurgling noises then grew still. The King heard the footsteps of more coming in the hallway. He ran behind his thrown and pulled open a secret trapdoor and jumped down to the passage way below.

The King then closed the door and hurried down the corridor. Finally after the king had been running for some time, he came to a door at the end of the hallway. With a Key he had kept around his neck the King unlocked the door and entered. Inside the room were a hundred elves consisting of men, women, and children.

The only civilians left in the entire city. The king hurried towards a large circle-like bush. The circle appeared to be woven out of the bush. The king drew a blue crystal from his pocket. He threw the crystal at the center of the circle.

With a blue flash the crystal exploded and formed a glowing portal to another world. "Quickly everyone through!" yelled the king. Instantly the people began to move through the portal, until just one remained.

"My father, why do you send me from your side?" wept king's daughter. "I do not have time for this" said the king. "It is my duty as your father to preserve your life!" And with that the king hugged his daughter and pushed her through the portal. A banging sounded at the door. They were here.

The king drew his sword "I swear that as long as I draw breath, none shall pass through this portal!"  Alukai streamed in through the door, a great howling mass. The king engaged them in combat. He fought harder than ever before to protect his daughter, for the portal had yet to close.
