It didn't take long before Atallie found the room allocated for her. It was located at the opposite wing from the duke's.
For Atallie, it was the most ideal place. At least, she wouldn't worry about bumping into the Duke of Kargaz every time that she would have to leave her room.
Out of sight, out of mind, out of life.
This new change in her life was still not sinking on her. It was like her mind didn't want to accept the truth at all. She was still in denial.
However, Atallie knew that denying her current situation won't help her at all.
Slumping down on the soft and cozy bright pink Camel Back sofa, the gates on her mind were opened wide as dozens of thoughts engulfed her, making her appear as if in a trance.
But just after a few minutes of silence, knocks descended on her bedroom door, and Atallie was snapped out of her reverie.
"Who is it?" Atallie asked as she glanced at the door.
A woman's voice could be heard from the outside. "Madame, we are your maidservants. We are here to assist you."
"Come in."
Women clad in bluish-gray clothes went inside with their footsteps as quiet as they could be. A woman in her mid 50s was leading the four of them in tow, and the woman seemed to be the oldest of them all.
Atallie remained seated at the couch and just tilted her body a bit towards them. She just couldn't get up at all from the discomfort that she had been feeling. Atallie just wanted to rip the gown off of her body as soon as possible.
"Greetings, Madame, I am Leonor, the previous nanny of His Grace The Duke of Kargaz, Calex Von Tygart, and the head maid in the estate of Tygart."
This woman certainly knows where to put her feet on.
"Pleasure to meet you, Leonor," greeted Atallie. Her expression was still as impassive as her tone of voice.
"The pleasure is mine, Madame. I will be attending to your needs from this day onwards. The duke has personally instructed me to serve you with utmost care to the best of my abilities. The others will be serving you alongside me," she lightly gestured for others. " Please allow these servants to introduce themselves to Your Grace as well. I carefully chose them to accompany me as we do our best to serve you," Leonor spoke with her ramrod straight back and dignified bearing despite her age.
It was as if she was bearing the dignity of the mother of Duke rather than just a nanny. Well, the way that she just addressed His Grace as 'The Duke' now only implied that her position in the estate was not something to disregard.
"You may do so," Atallie gestured to the servants to speak.
Atallie's attitude towards Leonor was neither warm nor cold. She just came into the estate literally not too long ago and she had not decided to test the waters just yet and so all she could do for now was to remain as neutral and as impassive as she could be while still being polite, bearing the dignity of a noble woman. Besides, she was not a rude person to begin with.
Head maid Leonor moved to the side and gestured for the four maidservants to step forward. One by one, they began to introduce themselves.
"This humble servant's name is Greta. Honored to be at your service, Your Grace."
"This humble servant's name is Reza. It's an honor to be at your service, Your Grace."
"My name is Gina. This humble servant is so honored to be at your service, Your Grace."
