Sequel to "A Visit to the Past".
Thx GiuliaWidow for this story.
'God, I'm tired,' Natasha whined, taking off her shoes and all her weapons she stored in unlikely places. 'Those two morons can't even stay in one room without fighting each other. I think they should seek couple's therapy.'
'I think they just hate each other that much,' Steve replied, inattentive. He opened his beloved compass, the one which had the newspaper cutout of his past love.
'Hey, you,' she said, leaning over his shoulder, seeing the compass, her heart thrumming wildly. 'Oh, that, yes.' She cleared her throat. 'Of course, why shouldn't you?'
'What? No,' he stuttered, closing it and hiding it in the drawer next to their bed. It was a 6 room place, including the living room, whose couch Scott Lang slept on every night for about 5 days now.
He sighed. 'Couldn't help myself.'
Natasha lowered her head in shame. It had been a tough few days on both, hell, all of them. First, the Lagos incident, that was a disaster, which neither of them blamed Wanda for, and then the ruthless bastard Ross, with his f*cking 117 countries-approved Sokovia Accords, then Natasha betraying Steve first, then Peggy, then the Vienna bombing, James, or Bucky being set up for it by Helmut Zemo, then the fight at the Leipzig/Halle Airport, her then betraying Tony, Rhodey nearly loosing his life, Tony lashing out on her, everyone at the airport getting thrown in the Raft, branding all 6, Bucky, or James, was cleared but the rest of them, criminals.
'It's okay,' she said, feeling guilty about her broken promise to Peggy. 'But she wouldn't want you to be all alone like this.'
'How am I alone when I have you?' Steve murmured, looking down bashfully.
Natasha smiled at his shyness. Even though he has now become more adjusted to the 21st Century life, he still had some of his 40s habits, for example still being embarrassed to talk about sex with a woman, even if she happened to be his girlfriend. She at first found it slightly annoying, but, it grew on her. He made her smile, laugh and giggle without even trying, most of the time. His beautiful blue eyes, with a hint of green, his perfect jaw, his smile, his masterpiece of a torso, his abs, his hands and most importantly, his great personality.
She has never met someone so respectful. One time, she almost accidentally flashed him her upper area when she thought she was alone in the Avengers HQ, he didn't even acknowledged her presence completely and turned away before he could even fathom what he saw, and said, and she quotes, 'Sorry for barging, Nat. Carry on.' And he just walked away, pretty sure that she saw him stretch his collar out and exhaling as if he was on fire.
During her days in the Red Room, her reputation among her handlers and other girls was very less, scratch that, it was very bad. When she first came to SHEILD, even Peggy was still slight doubtful and sceptical about her, atleast less than the other SHIELD agents. But after getting shot during an extraction mission in Paris, taking the bullet aimed for Peggy, she won almost everyone's trust, well those whom she had hadn't were too scared of Natasha and Peggy to say anything.
'Let's go outside,' Natasha said out of the blue. 'We'll talk out our, feelings.'
'Feelings?'
'Come on,' she said, tugging on his arm, for two reasons, both of them involving being closer to Steve. 'Just let all your thoughts out, and maybe, punch on the tree--'
'Wait, why?'
'I'm living with 2 old men, 2 bird-themed people, a snappy teen, and a shrinking idiot. I need to let my rage out.'
'Fine,' he said, smiling at her childishness getting up. 'Atleast wear a jacket or something. It's cold outside.'
'I'll be fine, Rogers.'
