We're Going On A Quest!

Start from the beginning

The teens looked round the room, seeing how scattered it was.

Then they heard sounds.

They looked round the room trying to pick where it was coming from, until they finally looked towards Ian’s wardrobe.

A leg stuck out of some bundle of clothes, and then the body stood, the torso covered by the bundle.

“Dad?” But then the clothes fell off, making the teens jump, and Barley exclaimed

“He's just legs!"

Indeed, it was just from the pants, down to the shoes.

A shoe suddenly moved forward, trying to find something.

“There's no top part. I definitely remember Dad having a top part!” Barley said.

“Now there’s something you don’t see everyday.” [Y/n] said, still staring at the pants in wonder.

“Oh, what did I do? This is horrible.” Ian said.

The feet walked closer to them.

Ian kneeled in front of it, and ran his hand over the hip part.

“Uh...…Hello?”

The legs walk past them.

“It's really him.” Barley said to the two.

“Dad, you are in your house.”

The legs bumped into Ian’s work desk and fell.

“Whoa, whoa!” The teens rushed over to him.

But the legs got up again, and walked past them.

“I don’t think he can't hear us.” [Y/n] said.

Barley suddenly got an idea. He bent down, stopping by the feet.

“What are you doing?” Ian asked.

Barley played a tune of his Dad’s foot.
“Pa pa ra rum pa.”

The legs drew back and then walked towards Barley.

The legs searched for Barley's, when it found them, it tapped the same tune on top.

“That's right, Dad. It's me, Barley.” Barley said, with a hand on his Dad’s foot.

The legs drew back, and then walked towards Ian.

A foot was placed on Ian’s.

“Yeah, that's Ian.” Barley said.

Ian knelt and placed a hand on his Dad’s foot.

“Hi, Dad.”

The legs then walked over to [Y/n], and then placed a foot on hers.

“That’s [Y/n]. She’s a friend.”

[Y/n] bent and tapped the foot that was on hers.

“Nice to meet you Mr Lightfoot. Well, part of you.”

Will’s legs stumbled backwards.

Ian groaned.

“I messed this whole thing up. Now he's gonna be legs forever.”

“No, not forever. The spell only lasts one day. At sunset tomorrow, he'll disappear, and we'll never be able to bring him back again.”

“Okay, okay, okay. 24 hours. That doesn't give us much time, but...” Ian picked up his phone, which was completely broken now, trying to see if he could turn it on. He groaned when he couldn’t, and set a timer on his watch instead.

“Well, we'll just have to do the spell again.”

“You mean you have to.” Barley said.

“A person can only do magic if they have the gift. And my little brother
has the magic gift.” Ian wiggled out of his brother’s grip and came to stand next to [Y/n] who gave him a smirk.

“Told you you were the wizard in the family.”

“Okay! Okay.” Ian said in agreement.

"But I couldn't even finish the spell.” Ian said, gesturing to their dad’s half.

“Well, you're gonna have plenty of time to practice.” Barley said, grabbing the staff.

“Cause we have to find another Phoenix Gem.” He gasped excitedly.

Barley set down a small box with “Quests Of Yore” written on the lid. He opened it up, revealing different trading cards.

He pulled out two trading cards.

“A-ha! We'll start at the place where all quests begin.” He handed the cards to Ian.

“The Manticore's Tavern.”

[Y/n] came and stood next to Ian, looking at the trading cards.

One having the picture of a tavern, and the other, the picture of a Manticore.

“It's run by a fearless adventurer. She knows where to find any kind of gem, talisman, totem...”

“Barley, this is for a game.” Ian said.

“Based on real life.” Barley answered.

“How do we know this tavern is still there?” [Y/n] asked.

“It's there.” Barley said, still searching the box.

“Look, my years of training have prepared me for this very moment. And I'm telling you, this is the only way to find a Phoenix Gem.”

He hand trading card with a Phoenix Gem on it, to Ian.

Ian glanced at his brother in doubt.

“Trust me.” Barley said.

Ian turned to [Y/n] who shrugged.

“What’ve you got to lose?” She asked then turned to Barley.

“Hey can I tag along? It’ll be the perfect story of adventure and defeat for my blog.” She said, clenching her tablet tightly to her chest.

She glanced at the boys who were slightly glaring at her, and cleared her throat.

“I mean uh……I want to help you guys meet your Dad?” She said nervously.

“Sure you can come along. A team of adventurers is never complete without a pretty girl by their side.” Barley said, wrapping his hand round [Y/n]'s shoulders.

Ian turned to his Dad.

“Whatever it takes, I am gonna meet my dad.”

Barley came behind him, wrapping his other arm round Ian’s shoulder, holding the two teens in his arms.

“You hear that, Dad? We're going on a quest."
