“What is that?”
The Manticore mascot walking by caught a glimpse of Will’s half body parts and gasped, but then bumped into a video game.
“It's our dad. And we have a chance to meet him, but...”
“But we can't do that without a Phoenix Gem.” Barley said, cutting Ian off.
“No! My days of sending people on dangerous quests are over.” Corey said, rolling up the map.
“What? Why?”
“Cause they're dangerous.”
“Corey, the karaoke machine's broken again.” The cyclop waitress said, making Corey groan.
“I'm sorry, but you are not getting this map.” Corey said to them, and then rushed to the speaker.
“Don't worry, ladies, your adventure will continue momentarily.” Corey said nervously to the girl band standing impatiently on the stage, then proceeded to fixing the speaker.
“Okay, I can handle this.” Barley said.
Ian took a deep breath and walked over to where Corey was, making [Y/n] smile at him.“No, Ian.” Barley called after him.
Ian stood nervously in front of Corey.
“Miss mighty Manticore, ma'am...…”
“What are you doing?” Barley whispered to his brother, making [Y/n] glare at him and step on his foot.
“Kid, this is not a good time.” Corey said, still trying to fix the karaoke machine.
“Ugh. I'm giving this place a one-star review.” One of the singers on stage said, making [Y/n] growl at her.
“Zip it sister, we’re dealing with something very important here.”
“It's just, I've never met my dad and..." Ian started.
“Look, I'm sorry about that. But if you get hurt on one of my quests, guess who gets sued and loses her tavern? I can't take that kind of risk. Now, if you'll just excuse me, I have important things to do.” Corey said, then she turned back to the machine.
“Testing. You haunt my dreams, My in-betweens”
“Please, we need that map.” Ian pleaded.
“No, I am not giving you the map. That's it! I am done talking.” Corey said firmly.
“Well, I'm not!” Ian said, slamming the staff down, but Corey still ignored him.
[Y/n] flared up.
“Hey lady! Listen up!” She exclaimed powerfully, making Corey turn to them.
“You say you can't risk losing this place. Look at that Manticore. She looks like she lived to take risks.” Ian said confidently, pointing to a picture of Corey on the wall.
She wore a warrior outfit, brandishing a sword, holding a Viking’s helmet, standing on a few other bodies.
“That Manticore didn't have investors to look out for. She didn't have payroll to cover. She could just fly out the door whenever she wanted and slay a magma beast.” Corey said.
“Are you gonna fix the machine or not?” One of the girls in the band said, coming up to Corey.
“Yeah, in a minute. Okay, maybe this place isn't as adventurous as it used to be. So it isn't filled with a motley horde willing to risk life and limb for the mere taste of excitement. But so what? Who ever said you have to take risks in life to have an adventure?” Corey asked.
“Apparently, you did.” [Y/n] said, pointing to the mantel above the picture.
“You have to take risks in life to have an adventure.” The Manticore.
Corey stared at her former self in surprise and realization.
A waiter walked up to her.
“Table 32 said their mozzarella sticks are cold.” Corey blew fire on the plate, making the food burn up.
“What have I done?” She asked herself.
“Well, it's not too late. I mean, you could just give us the map.” Ian said, reaching for the map which was firmly clenched in Corey’s fist.
Barley pulled him back, to where he and [Y/n] were standing, sensing Corey’s frustration.
“This place used to be dangerous.” Corey growled.
“Dangerous!” The Manticore mascot repeated.
“And wild!”
“Wild!”
“I used to be dangerous and wild!”
“Dangerous and wild!”
Corey growled at the mascot, and then jumped on it, ripping the head off of the costume, revealing the elf underneath.
Customers all gasped at her actions, with parents covering their children’s eyes
“I'm living a lie! What have I become?” Corey breathed fire on the Manticore’s mascot head, melting it.
“Oh, no.” Barley said.
“Everybody out!” Corey exclaimed, tossing a chair.
“This tavern is closed for remodeling.”
She roared, making all the customers jump.
Fire from the Manticore mascot’s head, spread upwards to a banner.
The customers all scrambled as the fire kept spreading.
Barley, Ian and [Y/n] hid behind a table, as fire surrounded the whole tavern.
Corey took off her shoes, and loosen her hair, then picked up the karaoke machine, throwing it at a wall.
“Sorry, the karaoke machine is broken!”
She growled, going to another part of the tavern, dropping the map.
Ian gasped as the map suddenly caught fire. He rushed to pick it up.
“Oh. No! No, no, no! No.” He said, as the map got burnt.
“We gotta go!” Barley said, grabbing Ian, and the four start to run out of the building.
They turn round a corner, but then beams fall from the ceiling, blocking their path.
“What do we do now?” Ian asked.
[Y/n] looked around, seeing the sword from earlier. She grabbed a small beam and ran towards it. She hit the glass case, shattering it and grabbed the sword.
[Y/n] ran towards the brothers and brought the sword down on the debris, slicing through, giving them a clear passage.
“Come on.” [Y/n] dropped the sword, and they ran through.
Ducking under a beam, Will’s upper half was separated from his legs, making them run wildly, away from the trio.
Ian looked down to see that his Dad’s legs were gone.
He turned to see that the legs were about to be crushed by a falling beam.
“Aloft Elevar!” He yelled, pointing the staff at the falling beam, keeping it in place.
As Ian struggled to keep the beam in place, Barley rushed and swiped their father’s legs from underneath the beam.
Ian dropped the beam, and the four rushed out of the tavern.
