Saving My Demon (Douma x Reader)

Chapter 7

"Shut up!" A male voice yelled out.

The three of you saw a figure sitting on top of Tanjiro's boulder. He has salmon colored hair and a yellow and green geometrical patterned kimono. He wore a fox mask making you unable to see his face but the mask has a scar across the right cheek.

"A man shouldn't whine. It's unseemly." The man said.

'When did he show up?' you thought as you stared up at him.

"No matter how you suffer, bear it in silence just like what she did." The man said as he pointed at you.

"If you are a man. If you call yourself a man." The male stated as he jumped down the rock and headed towards you, about to attack. You quickly grabbed your sword and blocked it but he kicked you in the side, making you slide on the ground a feet away. "Hey! (Y/N)-chan's not a man! She's a woman! WO-MAN! You stupid fox boy!" Douma shouted as he glared at the male.

"Slow. Weak. Immature. That's not what you call a man." The figure said making you angry. You gripped your sword and took a deep breath as you looked at him. "I am no man!" you yelled out as you dashed towards him in an unbelievable speed and swung your sword down. Frost covered your hands along with the hilt of your sword. The fox boy dodged your attack as you sliced down your boulder, dust scattering around you.

When the dust disappeared you let out a puff of air and noticed it was cold when the weather today was hot. You looked at your boulder and your eyes widened. The boulder was perfectly sliced in half and there was frost trailing down where you swung. "Well done." The boy said as you fell to your knees.

"You did it (Y/N)-san!" Tanjiro said. 'I did it.' you thought as you fell to ground but was caught in someone's arms. The fox boy then began to fight Tanjiro while you were being carried to the sidelines. You saw Douma giving you a grin and noticed he was the one who caught you. "Ara ara~ are you falling for me (Y/N)-chan?" Douma teased as you gave his nose a boop. "You tease. I'm exhausted." you answered. "All of your training paid off. Tsk, I can't believe that fox boy called you a man." Douma exclaimed as your eyes began to slowly close. Douma noticed this and gently brushed your hair, lulling you to sleep. "Take some rest, (Y/N)-chan." was the last thing you heard as you passed out.

You watched as the fox boy continued to kick Tanjiro's butt as you saw him get knocked back with one final blow. Douma wasn't with you today since Urokodaki dragged him to who knows where as he cried out for you. You were gonna help him when Urokodaki threatened you and kicked you out of the house to go and see what Tanjiro is doing.

You went towards Tanjiro and checked on him. A lot of bruises were scattered around his body and he looked exhausted. "He keeps saying that I'm not a man." Tanjiro said as you looked at him in worry. "(Y/N)-san, how can I be a man?" he finished as he suddenly passed out. An irk mark appeared on your forehead. You were gonna have to deal with that later.

"I'm leaving the rest to you." The fox boy said as you saw a girl with black hair and green eyes. She has the same fox mask like the other boy but the design is different. The mask has blue flowers as the designs and it was placed on the side of her head. The girl nodded as the boy disappeared, leaving the two of you alone with a passed out Tanjiro.

Tanjiro woke up to see you and a girl staring down at him. "Are you alright?" the girl asked as Tanjiro quickly sat up. "Did you see that just now? What a strike that was! Not a single bit of wasted motion! It was really beautiful!" Tanjiro yelled out as he looked at the two of you.

"I want to become like that! You think I can become like him?" He added. You and the girl gave him a smile. "I'm sure you can, Tanjiro-kun." you said. "Since I'll be looking after you." The girl added. Tanjiro blushed at the scene in front of him. 'She's so cute. And (Y/N)-san is so kind and gentle.' Tanjiro thought.

"Who are you?" Tanjiro asked the girl. You and Tanjiro found out the girl's name was Makomo while the fox boy earlier was Sabito. You and Makomo then helped Tanjiro train. Makomo pointed out his defects while you corrected his unnecessary movements and bad habits. You were still continuing your own training in your spare time but you focused more on helping Tanjiro out so he can go to the Final Selection.

Tanjiro always asks Makomo her reasons for helping him and where she came from but she didn't answer any of it. "Both Sabito and I love Urokodaki-san very much." Makomo answered as she placed a flower crown on your head.

"There are other children besides us. They're always watching you, Tanjiro-kun, (Y/N)-chan." Makomo told you two.

'Makomo is a somewhat strange girl. She speaks in such an abstract, dreamy way. It's like she's....'

"See, Total Concentration Breathing accelerates your blood circulation and your heart rate. That causes your body temperature to spike, making you as strong as a demon while staying human. The important thing is to expand your lung capacity. When you bring lots of air into your blood and when your blood gets excited, your bones and muscles scurry to heat up and grow stronger." Makomo explained.

'I'm not sure I get that.' you thought with a confused face. "How can I do that?" Tanjiro asked. Makomo looked at him. "Train to death." she said with a smile. 'This is what Urokodaki-san told me as well when I was practicing my Ice Breathing!' you thought. "At the end of the day, there's nothing else you can do." Makomo finished.

Six months has passed again and Tanjiro trained until he passes out. His hair has gotten longer during those months.

You stood on the sidelines and watched as Tanjiro faced off against Sabito. Snow was falling around you and you felt at peace, like you were one of them. Sabito has brought a real sword with him than the wooden sword he always has.

"After six months, finally, you have the look of a man." Sabito said as he unsheathed his blade. 'Is it because of his hair?' you asked yourself as Tanjiro prepared himself. "Today's the day I win!" Tanjiro exclaimed. Makomo stood beside you, watching the interaction happening.

'Head-on battles are simple. Whoever's stronger and faster here wins.' you thought as Sabito and Tanjiro disappeared. With your sight, you saw where the two are as they had their swords raised. You smiled when Tanjiro swung Sabito first. Sabito's mask was sliced in half as it fell off his head, showing you both his face.

Sabito gave you two a smile, it was a mix of both a happy and a sad one. "Tanjiro-kun, you did great. Don't forget what you just did." Makomo said beside you as you and Tanjiro looked at her. "Win, okay, Tanjiro-kun, (Y/N)-chan? Beat that guy too." Makomo exclaimed as mist surrounded her and disappeared. Sabito was gone as well but as the mist disappeared, it instead showed Tanjiro's boulder that was sliced in half.
