It had been almost a month since I have last seen miruko, and the awaited match was getting nearer day by day.
Although I have trained, I still felt as if it wasn't enough. The anxiety was bubbling inside of me, drowning me in its infinite amount of waves. That is the exact reason why hawks and I decided to go out in his free time, in the hopes of relieving the unwanted stress and getting rid of the negative toughts.
But hawks being hawks, decided to come late. Again.
'What does it take to make this man come on time?'
A knock could be heard on the windows, but the one doing so could not be seen, because of the curtains that blocked the view. That's why I had to walk my way out of the heaven that is called a bed to draw them. Only to see the one and only keigo tamaki, in his hero costume, floating in the air, upside down, with a stupid grin, looking at me like a lunatic.
'Don't tell me he was on patrol!'
"There is something called a door, you know?" I said to him after opening the window. Fortunately, my room was clean and tidy and my pyjamas were a usual sight to him since he always does the same thing to me where he comes in my room early in the morning, through the window. It almost became a habit to him.
"Uh...no, I don't, would you show me this door?"
"Sure, here it is, just walk through it." I said, my face adorned with my usual smile, a vein popping on my forehead, while grabbing the handle and opening it for him, silently saying: 'get the fuck out of here before I tear your wings to shreds and feed them to the neighbor's dog'.
"Oh wow...you are so kind I almost thoughts you were a gentleman if it wasn't for the fact that you are a girl." heading for the door he spat back, sarcasm lacing his voice.
"Hmm yeah, in that case, you won't see the surprise I have for you" my eyes shone in malice. I figured this blackmail would be perfect when used on him, since he can't stand to miss a surprise.
"OK, OK. I'm out. Chill." He raised both hands above his head while his wings shrank so he can fit in the door.
'Finally!'
As I was undressing myself, the cold air hit my skin making me recall some of the moments I have shared with him as well as some other memories.
The first memory that popped in my head was when I first met him. It was in a party three years ago. My mother brought me with her, and I was the only minor there. It was so boring to my eleven years old self that I have decided to go to a secluded area. That's when a bright red feather started tickling my nose, it didn't take much more time until it started flying away from me. Intrigued about its destination, I started following it while being wary of my surroundings at the same time. The next thing I saw was a young man, nearly twenty years old. He had huge crimson wings and bright blond hair. His figure was illuminated by the sunset's soft lights, making him appear like he came out of a fairy tail.
And that was the moment when I met one of my first friends.
The second memory was a couple of months after I have met him. Mother suddenly told me that someone was coming. At first, I thought that this person had to do something with her work, but to my surprise, the same winged man that I saw came for me. He said those same words: 'can we go now?'
I thought he meant by that my mother and him. But boy was I wrong, he meant him and I. So when mother told me to go with him, surprise took over my features as well as wariness over my heart. However, I didn't have a choice but to accept. Mother's personal chauffeur took me to the destination the golden-eyed man demanded while he flew above us, even though I was foreign to this place. When we finally arrived, we entered a small food shop and the scent engulfed my nostrils immediately. He then took me to a back table and sat there facing me. Since I wanted to cut the awkward silence, I asked a question. As usual.
It was: ' why did you want to bring me here?' The only difference was that I said it in a more polite way.
Truthfully, he answered with a relaxed smile: 'you seemed lonely and bored, with no friends, surrounded only by adults. Figured it would be a change for you.' I slowly nodded, not letting my guards down.
'And how did you convince mother to let you bring me here?' I asked again.
'Oh... that was a bit hard, but I kept bugging her. Even so, she gave me those conditions. You're probably wondering about 'em. So here they are:
first condition, the chauffeur will be following us wherever we go.
Second one: I have to bring you back before six o'clock
Third one: I will give her a review of everything we did today.' After this, I was a bit reassured. Then, one of the staff came towards us with a plate of chicken wings in one hand and a bowl of ice cream in the other. Just as the waiter placed them on the table, hawks started digging immediately on the chicken wings.
'You didn't order, how come the food has arrived?' I questioned
'This shop knows me and what I want. Now, how come you didn't ask if this is cannibalism?'
'Because I know it isn't. Your quirk is based off of a hawk, not a chicken. And hawks eat chicken. Therefore, it is only normal for you to eat it.'
'Color me impressed! You figured that my quirk is a hawk-based one. Now what about that ice cream, won't you eat it? Do you think that was for me? Or do you think that something was put in it?' He interrogated me, seeing as I was eying that dessert skeptically.
'I don't think there is something in it, it's just that....I have never tasted one before.' The sentence came out quietly, especially at the end.
'...You're joking, right?' Shock was evident in his face as he asked me rather...loudly.
'No, I'm not. Consuming any kind of sugar will give you a higher risk of getting diabetes.' His face suddenly fell, and had a deadpan expression instead. Never has he seen a kid that refused to eat ice cream, let alone never tasted one.
'That's only if you eat too much, you know. It wouldn't hurt if you eat it from time to time.' He tried convincing me.
'I know that, but I'm still afraid'
'Ok then, just try one spoon, please.' He pleaded with a soft smile.
For him, the meaning of a childhood is doing what all the kids do, such as eating ice cream. If you couldn't do those things, you were deprived from your childhood. And I couldn't do those things. His heart was washed with a wave of sympathy and he felt the urge to help me as much as he could, he felt as if it was his priority was to make me happy.
I slowly scooped the spoon in the ice cream and put it in my mouth, letting my tastebuds enjoy and recognize the new flavour. A genuine, heart warming smile graced my face that lit up in delight, and I quickly stuffed my mouth with the rest of the sweet.
