[Your on the news]-Sam

I glance down at the text. I wasn't surprised. A girl with wings beats any presidents speech.

[Not surprised. How are you?]-Me

[Getting along. Had about three interviews... Same with James. We're famous. But more importantly how are you doing? Did you get in touch with your mom?]-Sam

I felt tears welling up. I was so alone without Sam, James, mom...

[Tried calling her a lot but no surprise there, she didn't pick up. And I'm okay. In a tree right now resting for the night.]-Me

I looked around. It was true, I was in a tree. I find if your not afraid of falling they can be quite comfortable. Around me it's completely dark, my phone's light casting a blue green light over my branch. I turned down the brightness.

[Is sleeping in a tree comfortable??? And sorry about your mom, you'll find her.]-Sam

[Its pretty comfortable. Not a bed but it's ok. And thanks for the support. I better go though. Love you.]-Me

[Okay, text you tomorrow unless you text me beforehand not too. Love you!]-Sam

I check out the news on my phone. (Are hybrids real? Flying girl is spotted in New York City...) I didn't finish, I knew what it would say anyway. Something like: a 13 year old girl is spotted in New York City and, she is said to have wings. (Don don don inserted here). Rumor has it she is being hunted...

I sigh and turn off my phone to save the battery before getting ready to sleep. It was too dark to read the files without a bright light. I would read them in the morning and find out where to start.

^*^

The next morning, I opened the Itex file first. It seemed like my best chance. It was a thick wad of paper and I picked up the first piece. It was a job application. For my mom.

Hoping I didn't pick up some of her work stuff, I looked at the next piece. Squinting my eyes to make sure I read it correctly, I blink nervously. It was a paper about avian DNA. Well how convenient.

Glancing around just to make sure I wasn't being stalked by wolf people or anything, I attempted to read part of the paper.

I understood nothing. Groaning, I picked out another page. It was hard to hide my excitement that the next page would be better.

That excitement was soon stifled when I noticed that the next page was about human DNA. Sighing I put that aside as well. I was only 13, not some crazy scientist. Just saying.

I skimmed through most of the other pages, I honestly couldn't understand most of it.

Then I noticed the next packet had pictures of babies. It consisted of 10 pages, each complete with a picture, some graphs and numbers I didn't understand, birth dates, and some other stuff. Like parents, I realized. And names although those were mostly numbers. But most unnerving was a stamp. Either a green one that said efficient, or a red on that said retired, that went across each page.

But I barely noticed. My heart skipped a beat when I realized that this was probably about me. About other bird kids!

I looked over the baby pictures hopefully looking for one of me. Finding it I looked at the name, well number, which was 9310098. But then how did the wolf people know my name?

I shook it off and looked at the graphs next, hoping to understand what they meant about me.

Nope, I'm not that smart. The variables were gibberish.

I sighed and looked at the birthdate. 5/6/01.
Yeah that was right. But why was there another number after it? 5/6/01 - 12/18/01.

Then I looked at the stamp. It was the red one. Retired.

My heart stopped when I realized what retired actually meant.
