He kept forgetting you were gone. Sometimes when he needed to talk or vent, he would dial your number. When it didn't ring and the automatic message saying 'This number no longer exists,' it hits him in the face like a bucket of ice water. May tries to help him cope, but he never accepts it, he has to be the hero. He had to wear the brave face even though your disappearance kills him from the inside. Everyone can see it, feel it. The dull look in his eyes, the way he stays shut inside his office or room. The way he becomes more reckless one missions which turned into a conversation with May:

"YOU'RE GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED!" She shouted, following him around the base as he ignored her. "IF IT WASN'T FOR ME AND DAISY, YOU WOULD ALREADY BE DEAD!"

"WELL, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!" He shouted back before slamming the doors in her face while Jemma and Leopold looked at May with a sympathetic look. She sighed before turning on her heel and leaving, trying to think of ways to not forget about you, but move on. He's the Director after all.

It was as though nothing changed. She was quiet and wore a serious, dull, emotionless face. Though when you were around, she would smile. She would talk. She would laugh. Now she only talks about missions and doesn't hang around with the team. She doesn't celebrate huge accomplishments. Well, she attends, drinks and lingers around but she doesn't talk excitedly to everyone. However, Fitz did point out one day she was wearing a silver locket around her neck. May NEVER wears jewellery, but this heart shape locket was laying on top of her shirt as she walked around the base.

It had a small picture of you and her hugging each other and smiling into the camera. It was her way of keeping you close to her heart. She needs something physically. Though she can remember memories you both shared that would mentally keep you close, she NEEDS something physical. She has to have that...thing that would give her the strength she needs that you always gave, and will continue to give.
