One boy leads me away from the pit, holding my wrists behind my back in an attempt to make sure I don't escape. Teresa's to my left, another boy holding her the same. To our right, Thomas pretends to still be asleep while two boys drag him against the ground, if I didn't know what was truly going on I would've believed Thomas to be dead.

Ahead of us, three wooden poles stand in front of an entrance to the maze, other boys beginning to gather around the scene while Gally walks from the Wall of Names. I watch him closely, glaring him down as his eyes remain glued to the ground, he doesn't even look up when Thomas suddenly gets thrown to the ground. Despite everything he's doing, I know that Gally still has some humanity left in him.

"This is such a waste." He finally speaks up. Teresa and I are stopped in front of our designated poles, the boys still holding our wrists and looking to Gally for their next command. "Gally," Winston calls, "It doesn't feel right, man." It goes silent again until Jeff perks his head up, "Yeah, what if Thomas is right? Maybe he can lead us home."

"We are home, okay?" Gally argues, "I don't want to have to cross anymore names off that wall." He points to the Wall of Names and I follow his sight, knowing he's referring to Alby. "And you really think that banishing us is going to solve anything?" Teresa retaliates from next to me.

Gally finally turns to face us, "No. This isn't a banishing." He pauses, slightly tilting his head to look into the maze, "It's an offering." At his words, I'm suddenly turned and slammed against the middle pole, my wrists being put above my head and tied to it.

"Wait, Gally! What are you doing?!" Teresa yells, the same happening to her. "You really think I'm gonna let Thomas back into the maze? After what he's done?" Gally yells back, "Look around! Look at our Glade, this is the only way. And when the grievers get what they came here for, everything goes back to the way it was."

I briefly glance around at the surrounding Gladers, watching their faces become confused and torn, trying to decide what's right and what's wrong. "Are you seriously listening to this? He's crazy!" Teresa yells, "Will you shut the hell up?" Gally seethes, except that doesn't stop her, "If you stay here, the grievers are going to come back. They're gonna come back and they're gonna keep coming back until you're all dead!"

"SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" Gally explodes, "Tie him up." He orders to his minions, but they just stand there looking between themselves and Gally, "Did you not hear me? I said, tie him up!"

His minions jump out of their trance and move fast to pick up Thomas, getting him halfway up when Thomas suddenly hits one of them in the stomach, grabbing his spear and smacking the other guy with it.

I smirk to myself as our plan is finally in action. I lift my leg and kick the unsuspecting boy in front of me right in the crotch, using my other leg to push him to the ground as Newt suddenly appears in front of me. "Nice one, darling." He quickly says and cuts the rope around my wrists, "What?" I'm completely caught off-guard and watch his face turn pink as he smiles and hands me a machete, telling myself to keep moving despite the butterflies in my stomach.

We join the group and face Gally and the rest of the Gladers, their shocked expressions bringing some satisfaction to myself. "You're full of surprises, aren't you?" Gally asks, "You don't have to come with us, but we are leaving." Thomas starts, "Anyone who wants to come with us, this is your last chance." He forewarns the rest of the boys.

"Don't listen to him, he's just trying to scare you." Gally reassures them, also arguing with Thomas. "No, I'm not trying to scare you. You're already scared, I'm already scared." He pauses, "But I'd rather risk my life out there than spending the rest of it in here."

I study the boys and watch their puzzled faces, some of them looking to each other and others taking a couple steps forward. "We don't belong here, this place isn't our home. We were put here, trapped here. At least out there, we have a choice. We can make it out of here, I know that." Thomas stops for a moment and seems to wait for a response, Gally says nothing but a great number of boys step up and join our side, including Winston, Jeff, and some of Gally's minions.

"Gally, it's over." Thomas says to him, "Just come with us."

The two boys just stare at each other, not one word but so much seems to be said. Gally begins to blink back a couple of tears and I find myself beginning to frown. He's done so much to hurt us, to try and stop us, but he's not the villain in this situation. I may not like him, I may despise him right now, but I want him to come with us. No one deserves to be trapped in a place like this.

"Good luck against the grievers."

That's our cue. I scan the Glade one more time, this awful place being the first home I'll ever remember. Lastly, I look to Gally, wishing he'll change his mind but I know that's not likely. Feeling free and yet defeated, I turn around and run into the maze.
