Fearless

"Something bad has happened."

Those words began to echo around my head.

"Laura, I've got to go." I said quickly.

"What do you mean? Carter, don't put this phone down on me-" she threatened, but it was too late as I'd already ended the call.

"What happened?" I asked as we headed inside.

"I think it's best if you let your mom explain." he said, making me worry slightly.

"Jamie, just tell me what's going on!"

As we walked into the kitchen where everyone was, I noticed my Mom shouting aggressively into her phone in the corner of the room. I couldn't hear her clearly over the noise of everybody else but everyone looked extremely worried about something.

Tris was stood behind the kitchen island comforting Kayla, and I could see that Blade and Ivy were sat at the table in the midst of a serious-looking conversation. Finally, I could see the twins in the middle of an argument over by the window and my mind was running wild. I also noticed that Cyrus and India were nowhere to be seen and my dad still wasn't home.

"What the hell is going on?" I said, walking over to Lucas and Ryan and stopping them from tearing each other apart.

"You want to know what's going on? Ryan's-" Lucas began.

"Lucas! Don't tell Carter, he'll kill me!" Ryan yelled, shoving Lucas roughly.

"Well then you shouldn't have covered for them. Then maybe none of this would have happened!" he said, shoving Ryan back.

It's rare to see Lucas so riled up and angry, so I knew this must be serious. He's usually the most calm and reasonable one of us all, but I still had no idea what was going on.

"Covered for who? What are you talking about? Is this why you were acting so weird earlier?" I asked.

They both simply looked at me, not knowing what to say.

"Will someone just tell me what's happened?" I yelled, causing the room to fall silent.

My mom saw me and quickly put the phone down, walking towards me.

"Carter, it's about Sky." She said softly. "But she's fine now, so there's no need to worry okay?"

The second I heard my sister's name my heart began beating rapidly and my eyes widened. The thought of my little sister being in danger made my heart drop to my stomach.

"What do you mean she's fine now? What the hell's going on? What happened to her?" I said worriedly.

"Carter just calm down, she's fine." Jamie said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Get off me." I said, yanking my arm away from my best friend. "Where's Sky? I thought she went to bed!" I asked my mom.

She took a deep breath and stepped towards me.

"It's a long story, Cart-" she said calmly.

"Well tell me!"

"Carter, it's nothing to worry about honey." Ivy said.

"Nothing to worry about? Then why were you all freaking out 2 seconds ago?"

"She's fine Carter, your dad's with them now." Blade said.

"Them?"

"Let's go and sit down, and we'll explain." Mom said, taking a deep breath.

I followed her to the table reluctantly, waiting for an explanation as we took two seats across from Blade and Ivy.
