"Humanoid squids?" You questioned, your eye twitching a bit.
"Yeah! Did you even see the news, (Y/N)?" Carli bit back.
"I do watch the news, but the difference between you and me is that I don't watch fake news."
Carli scoffed, pulling up the article on her phone. You read through the article but were still unconvinced that there were humanoid squids. It just seemed too surreal, like something straight out of a movie. You handed back the phone to Carli, who just raised an eyebrow at you.
"Yeah, I'm still unconvinced," You shook your head.
Carli groaned in defeat. She doesn't expect me to believe this, right? You sighed and got up. You had to go to work soon and there was no way you'd be late again.
"I've gotta go, I'll see you around."
"All right, but if you end up seeing a humanoid squid, don't say I didn't tell you!" Carli shouted before you left.
Part of you almost made fun of Carli for being so childish. There's absolutely no way that what Carli said was true. Squids exist, yes, but humanoid squids? That's just pushing it too far now. That kind of stuff is only seen in video games, or movies, or fanfictions. But in real life, that's a completely different story. There is no such thing as a humanoid squid. You made a left down at an alleyway, taking the usual shortcut to your job. It was away from the streets, and better yet, people. However, as you continued down your usual path, there was an odd noise coming from... somewhere.
"Hello?" You called out, only to receive no answer.
You began to feel unsafe, tugging your purse closer to your body. If a burglar was hiding somewhere in the shadows, then you needed to be prepared. You heard the odd noise again, only this time, there was rattling with it. You nearly jumped in fear of what may be beyond your line of vision. Whoever this criminal was, he or she isn't doing a good job at keeping themselves concealed. The rattling came again, this time you pinpointed where it was coming from. There was a trashcan near two bags of, what you can only assume is more garbage, shaking slightly.
"Hmph, trying to give me a scare huh? Well..." You slowly started to creep up to the trashcan, "I can work with that."
Slowly but silently, you crept up to the vibrating trashcan, making sure to keep your footsteps at a low volume. You reached into your purse and gripped onto a can of pepper spray. If the criminal wanted you to come close, then you can just spray them in the eyes. The police can handle the rest after that.
THUMP!
The trashcan fell suddenly, causing you to stop moving. You waited in anticipation as the area filled with a silent atmosphere. Then, you noticed just how small the trashcan is. Odd, why would someone try to rob someone using a hiding place like that? You thought, tilting your head to the side. Is it a child, perhaps? You went in a little closer until you heard it.
That same god damn noise from earlier.
This strange noise - no, voice - sounded like an abundance of gurgles and gibberish mixed into one. It was unsettling and weird for the most part.
"Um, h-hello...?" You squeaked, feeling the fear bundle inside you.
The voice stopped and there was even more silence. Then, suddenly, the sound - that can only be compared to goo being slapped across the floor in a messy pattern - came into your ears. Something colored blue slipped its way out into the open, nearly making you step back. This thing had big blue eyes and a body shaped like a mini squid. You couldn't fathom what you were seeing. Is this the human squid Carli was talking to me about? You pondered, getting a little closer to the abnormal creature. Once you were close enough, the creature sprung up, its squid body transforming into a different form. One that looked more human.
