(It's this books 1-year anniversary today! I feel bad that it's taking this long for this story to be completed but it just hasn't been my main priority at the moment. It's hard to write without motivation as well. Still, I promise that this will be completed even if it takes a while. This chapter was very rushed since I wanted to get it out on the anniversary but I still hope you enjoy the chapter! Feel free to point out any mistakes I may of overlooked)

~Y/n's POV~

Deltarune truly was a beautiful place. We had only been wandering around for a few minutes now but everything kept catching my eye. Ink had teleported us to a field that was covered in purple grass that was incredibly soft. The strange warped trees from the previous area were here as well. Curiosity was egging me to see how the glitched leaves felt, but my logic told me that probably wasn't a good idea.

I had my left hand intertwined with Ink's, I hadn't let him go this whole time. His hand felt warmer than usual and had even more of a dry paint texture. If it weren't for his warmth I would've thought I was touching a wall. Despite my grasp, I could tell that Ink was tense. It was almost like he was expecting something (or someone) to come out and ambush us.

I glanced to my right and saw that Nightmare looked more anxious than ever. He was walking slightly behind us, seemingly on purpose. I wished I could go and comfort him but I know he wouldn't want me doing that in front of Ink. Ink would get jealous anyway. What was I going to do with these two...

"We're nearly there." Ink said abruptly, interrupting the silence that had gathered between us.

"And where exactly is there?" Nightmare questioned while looking all around the surrounding area. It hadn't seemed like anything had changed about it. Except perhaps the grass was swaying more slowly and the trees may be glitching less often.

"I'm not entirely sure, but I can feel an increase of magic around here. Can't you?"

"Not exactly... You know how my magic is fueled..."

"Oh, uh- right."

The air grew awkward as we trudged on. Nightmare looked like he wanted to shrink in on himself, his short tentacles curling in towards his body. I couldn't sit by and let him feel like that. I reached out and gently grabbed onto his arm, letting him have the chance to shake me off if he wanted to. However, he didn't and he let me pull him to walk on my right side. I didn't let go of my hold on his arm, something that I could tell Ink wasn't fond of.

I squeezed Ink's hand for reassurance, but it didn't seem to help much. What was I going to do about his jealousy? I obviously couldn't point it out right now. Hopefully later I could have a nice long chat about it.

I felt something odd prickling in the space around me. It felt a lot like the magic being used in the battle we saved Nightmare in... Was this what Ink was talking about? It didn't feel pleasant like the other magic I've felt. It reminded me of shards of glass slicing against the air.

"I feel the magic too, Ink. It's... not great." I informed him, a shiver crawling up my spine. I didn't like this feeling at all.

"It's definitely Cross's magic. It feels like shards of glass, doesn't it?"

"That's literally exactly what I thought."

"He's definitely been around here, we just need to follow the trace of the magic to where it's strongest."

I nodded and tried to focus on the feeling, but that became more and more unpleasant as we neared whatever we were approaching. I looked back at Night, who seemed very on edge. His eye was glancing all over the place before it stopped on something in the dark of the trees.

Nightmare came to a very sharp stop. "Someone's here."

Ink immediately let go of my hand and pulled out his paintbrush, pointing it at the area Night was staring intensely at. I fired up my own magic and a Gaster Blaster appeared at my side in an instant. It felt weird to have this power back and was already starting to drain me, but I stood tall nevertheless.

Everything was deathly still. Not even the grass was moving. You could hear a pin drop in the unnatural silence. I subconsciously was holding my breath, not wanting anything to distract me in the slightest. My full concentration was on the area Night was so focused on. Any second now someone was going to attack, I just knew it. I could still feel the remnants of Cross's magic digging into me. It didn't help with the tenseness of this situation.

It's been too long... why weren't they attacking? I accidentally let my guard go down for a slight second. It was only a second.

But that's when it happened.

"HO HO HO!"

A round figure suddenly crashed through the trees. Out of pure instinct, the Blaster fired at the target. It seemed to have frightened it as well. It was a miracle that Ink had the reflexes fast enough to deflect the laser to elsewhere. My heart was still beating out of my chest. Who the hell was that?!

"WOWIE! THATS A COOL LASER MONSTER YOU GOT THERE RAINBOW LADY!"

"Oh, uh, thanks?" I replied very confusedly. The Blaster dematerialized and I got a good look at the strange person before me. Not to call a spade a spade, but he was a spade. He was bouncing on the balls of his feet which reminded me a lot of Blueberry.

"Lancer you really shouldn't try and sneak up on us like that. You could've gotten hurt." Ink sighed as he put his paintbrush back to where it was. "What are you doing out here anyway?"

So this was the Lancer that Ink mentioned briefly. I don't know what I expected with a name like his. Lancer put a hand up to his chin as he seemed to have forgotten why he was here. It was hard to read his expression considering his eyes were covered. He had stuck his blue tongue out as well as he thought which was quite cute. He seemed pretty young but I tried not to assume that he was (after all I was very surprised at how old Blueberry was).

"OH RIGHT! I WAS OUT HERE CAUSE ME AND BLUE PERSON HEARD A STRANGE NOISE AROUND HERE!"

A strange noise? I thought Cross had left a while ago... was he still here? I looked over to both Ink and Night to see what their reaction to this news would be. Ink had an aura of worry but was keeping a determined face, however Night on the other hand was nearly the opposite. Nightmare was very rigid and tense, if he wasn't careful his spine might snap in half.

Ink glanced into the forest, "And where is Kris?"

"I HAVE NO CLUE!" Lancer answered cheerfully, before seeming to realize the effect of his words. His smile seemed to falter a bit, but he still had his tongue out.

"Let's go look for him, he should be able to help us." Ink masked his voice with reassurance for Lancer, but I could tell his true feelings. He was worried and so was I. If they had heard a strange noise recently and now Kris was gone... I didn't want to think about what could be happening. Hopefully Kris just fell behind?

Me, Ink, Night, and Lancer quickly made haste and walked into the forest of glitching red trees. I didn't care to admire their beauty this time. I was concentrated on looking for signs of whoever this Kris person was. I remember Ink mentioning him but I still don't know who he his. Other than he's blue judging by the fact Lancer called him 'blue person'.

"Nightmare, do you feel anything?" Ink addressed Night, but not looking at him. Ink had his eyes scanning all over the place and they were both shaped like red circles.

"I-I'm not sure. I can't tell if the emotions I'm feeling are from you guys or not... My power isn't quite what it was from before the VOID... I'm sorry." Night apologized solemnly, looking at the ground.

I put a hand on Night's shoulder in reassurance and was about to say something to comfort him, but we all heard something.

A muffled scream.

Without missing a beat, we all started to run towards the sound. It hadn't sounded far at all. It definitely had belonged to a man, was it Kris? Was Kris in trouble? I out-sped the others and thus was the first to discover the source of the sound.

This definitely seemed to be Kris. The problem was that he was being stabbed through the chest by a giant red knife.
