(to set the scene they're at the mall)
I pushed my niece around in her stroller and browsed through the clothing casually. My sister had some errands to run and i was dying to get out the house so i volunteered to take my niece, jules, to the mall for some bonding. I had picked up a couple of cute outfits for jules and now was looking for something for myself. after looking for a little while i gave up and decided that jules and i should go get something to eat.
i bent down to jules and made sure she was settled in so we could head to the food court. but what i didn't know is that as i pushed jules away to the food court she dropped her favorite blanket.
we got to the food court and ordered food. while we waited for it, i brought jules over to a table to let her move around a bit. i let her out and she looked at my hands as she sat in my lap.
"what are you looking at jules?" i questioned.
"buey." she said. since she'd recently turned 2, her vocabulary was slowly being built up but there was one word that she made sure everybody knew the meaning of. buey, the name of her baby blue blanket that she couldn't live without. my sister had tried correcting her by teaching her how to pronounce bluey but jules insisted that the blankets name was buey. i looked into the stroller and realized that it wasn't there.
"buey." she cried, tears starting to well up in her eyes. that blanket meant so much to her and she would be devastated if she never saw it again.
"ok let's look for buey." i quickly scanned the ground around us and started to backtrack when a tall, brown haired boy approached me with buey in hand.
"hey. i saw the her drop this and i wanted to return it. my name's vinnie by the way."
"thank you so much! that's her favorite blanket. im y/n." vinnie handed the blanket to jules making her to light up.
"buey!" she said cheerfully. vinnie and i smiled at her adorableness and she turned to vinnie and blew him a kiss, a skill she had recently learned.
"aww!" vinnie and i cooed in unison.
"ok well i should go now... but is there any chance i could get your number? i'd really love to get to know you and this cutie better."
"of course!"
we exchanged numbers and the rest is history.
*time skip to 3 1/2 years later*
vinnie and i had gotten married after two years of dating and we were currently expecting our first child very soon. and by very soon i mean right now.
i laid on the hospital bed in pain, ready for my baby to get out of me. all i wanted to do was hold it and love it but thats kinda difficult when it's refusing to come out. red hot pain shot through me as i pushed.
"you can do this baby! i believe in you!" vinnie said. i turned to look at him and saw that he was pale as a sheet and shaking. needle-like pain coursed through my abdomen as i tried to stay calm with vinnie but i failed.
"vinnie why the fuck are you freaking out? you're not the one birthing a baby." i said before letting out a scream. the little shi- babyfinally decided to make his grand entrance.
"time skip to after the baby is born."
i held my (son or daughter) in my arms in awe at how tiny and cute they were. i was so proud of vinnie and i for making something so beautiful. i mean i did a lot of the heavy lifting but it was a group effort. a nurse came in and made sure everything was ok before telling us that we had visitors. suddenly my sister, her husband, and jules burst into the room.
"where's my neice?" my sister said excitedly. after they got to know the new baby, jules who is 5 now, remembered that she brought a gift for the baby.
"i bought the baby a blanket like the one i had when i was little!" she said as she handed the blanket to me.
"thank you so much jules! im sure the baby is going to love it!" vinnie said earning a silly grin from jules.
"vinnie's right. this is the best gift ever!" i added.
