Prompt: Hermione's very nervous about her date with Cormac because she overheard how he was planning on kissing her at the end of their date. Y/N, being Hermione's best friend she listens to her nervous rants about it. But they both didn't know about their bottled-up feelings for each other.

It had just been a few hours after Hermione was asked out by Cormac, the arse she fancied, according to Y/N. Her best friend couldn't care any less about it, she thought he was nothing more than a self-centered arsehole and an imbecile. Both things Hermione couldn't see, the bushy-haired girl thought he was amazing. If only someone heard how many times Y/N had insulted him, anyone would've immediately taken her side.
And now they were in the Gryffindor Prefect room, Hermione was pacing around at the conversation she had just overheard with Cormac and one of his friends, how he was planning on kissing her. At first, Hermione couldn't be any happier being kissed by the boy she admired, but for Y/N she couldn't be any more surprised by his antics. In Y/N's mind, Maclaggen is using that as an entryway to getting into her best friend's pants. And that was the last thing she would want Mclaggen to do.
"Y/N did even you listen to anything I said," a voice asked, making Y/N snapped out of her daze from the wall. She turned to the bushy-haired girl, shaking her head 'no.' Hermione huffed irritably, "Y/N! My date is in a few hours, what am I going to do!?"
Y/N let her words sunk into her head before responding, "Do the things you do on a date? Like, y'know, holding hands, talk-" Y/N cut herself off as she realized how Hermione was scowling at her words. Y/N's eyes soften in embarrassment, realizing how that was not what she had meant. She lowered her head towards the floor, avoiding Hermione's eyes.
Hermione continued pacing back and forth in front of Y/N again, "I mean, I've kissed people before but, knowing Cormac is planning on kissing me. It's confusing," she sighed exasperatedly, the bushy-haired girl saying that made Y/N's head shot up in curiosity with her words.
"I'm sure you'll do fine, I mean. You'll figure it out, after all, you like him." Y/N implies, annoyance laced in her voice when she mentioned the guy she hated and wanted nothing more to do with him. Hermione squinted her eyes, noticing Y/N's tone on emphasizing the word 'him.' She pushed down her suspicion as she continued back to her ranting.
"What if he thinks I'm a horrible kisser, what if I'm a rebound?" Hermione asked worryingly, crossing her arms over her chest in her head. Once those words had escaped past her lips, Y/N furrowed her eyes sadly at her words. No matter how much the taller girl despised him, she didn't want to upset Hermione in any kind of way that involved hurting her emotionally or psychically.
Sure, minor insults from her seem to be tolerable for Hermione, considering that Y/N was her best friend and she was bound to hear them sooner or later and obviously had to endure them. It was more tolerable than hearing Ron's bickering to her about how she was admiring the wrong person and such and such. And Hermione was not having it with his shit and ended up ignoring him for almost a month straight.
Y/N stood up from the bed, making Hermione confused and it only made her more confused when a pair of arms snaked around her, she was now engulfed in a hug. Hermione felt her heartbeat slow down as it was overtaken complete bliss. She melted into her best friend's warm embrace, nuzzling her head into the crook of the taller girl's neck.
"You'll be fine, just don't stress about it so much. I hope you have fun," she mutters out encouragingly, frowning to herself at her words that were like being picked away at her heart. She wanted her to be happy, she hadn't had the courage of confessing to her out of fear of rejection and possibly even ruining their friendship. And knowing that she wouldn't be able to hold her like how others would be able to make her emotional, but if she knew that Hermione had the opportunity to have a chance on being happy, how could she have argued against that?
She felt Hermione nod against her neck, as she inhaled the scent of Y/N. Sweet melon, her favorite scent. She felt her heart flutter when the scent of sweet melon filled her nostrils, which was weird because she'd never gotten that feeling when she was around Cormac. When Hermione was around him she would feel nothing being psychically attracted to him, no flutter in her heart or anywhere.
But she quickly pushed down the feeling, focusing on the moment they had shared. It was weird but there was a mutual agreement between the both of them, they would allow each other to be happy, no matter who it was. They had then pulled apart, Y/N looked away from Hermione's direction, quickly raising her hand to cover her cheeks that were flushed.
Hermione then turned to the door and slowly walked towards it. There was this burning question in the back of her head, like if she were second-guessing if she should've said no instead of the answer she gave Mclaggen.
As Hermione placed her hand on the door, she pursed her lips and turned back to the taller girl, who was standing there with an emotionless expression. The bushy-haired girl looked at her with uncertainty in her eyes, "Are you sure you want me to go?"
