Chapter 8: Safe? Not so Much

I was knocked out from the crash, waking up to find blood running down my neck and left arm. I see Slivko, Mason, James, and Victor around me passed out on the ground, Mr. Brooks and Miss San there too. I rush to Mason and Slivko, conveniently next to each other, kneel next to them and shake them. "Mason, Slivko, wake up!" I say, shaking them harder. "You're making me do this." I say as I prepare my hand.

I slap them both over the face.

"AH." They both shout, feeling the sting of my hand on their faces.

"I really hope that you weren't planning on waking me up like that too." A British voice behind me comments.

I jump up a little before standing, facing James. "You idiot!" I say. "Don't scare me like that!"

He chuckles a little, throwing his hands up in defense. "Sorry, sorry. Let's wake up the others, not by slapping them though."

"Rude." I huff. After we wake everyone up, James takes me to the top of a tiny hill to scout. I do remember to bring a gun, thankfully.

We see the giant monkey moving away from where we are right now. James grabs my hand. Nobody is in the air anymore. I can only hope that the rest of my boys are ok.

James suddenly leaves, dragging me along behind him. We go back to the wreck of the helicopter, hearing Slivko calling for anyone airborne.

"Slivko, just stop." I say.

"They're all down. Every one of them." James continues for me.

"Gods this is a nightmare." I comment under my breath, James having heard me as he still has not let go of my hand.

"We're on the south side of the island." He continues. "There's a river a couple of klicks from here. If we stick to its banks, we'll make it to the exfil site on the north shore."

He drags me over to Mason when Victor starts talking. "And then what? All our choppers are down." James turns around and starts talking to Victor, letting go of my hand as I continue walking to Mason.

"We'll find a way to signal the ship. They'll send a search party. We just have to make it by the exit window." He makes his way over to Mason and me as Victor mumbles something to himself.

"So wait, are we just not gonna talk about this?" Slivko asks, panicked.

"My best guess is we're scattered over a four to five-mile radius. We should head north and join anyone we find. Are both of you alright?"

Mason and I look at each other. "We do not know how to answer that question right now." Mason answers for us.

A/N: OVER 1K READS GUYS! It's been just over 2 months (I think. Not that great at counting out time) and I'm really happy that this has been doing ok. I'm sorry it's short, wanted to get this out as fast as possible, make it up for the really long author's note and short chapter last time.
