"Sir, are you listening?" General Hux questioned. He had been lecturing Kylo Ren on a rebel camp stormtroopers had intercepted while on routine surveillance.
Kylo had been trying to ignore the rising feeling of dread inside of him as Hux droned on. His thoughts were elsewhere during their mundane exchange in the command center. He didn't need to read the general's mind to sense the blatant doubt Hux held in his leadership ability.
With a flick of his hand Kylo had the general suspended in the air by a force around his neck. Kylo took slow steps as he watched the blood begin to rush to General Hux's face.
"Yes, let me see if I heard you right, your troops found an enemy base located on a planet outside of our jurisdiction and yet somehow you managed to let them espace?" Kylo repeats back to the general his voice growing louder by the second. "And then you have the nerve to ask if I am listening to how you have failed to bring them to me?" He asks again tightening the force around the his neck.
Kylo listens to the pained cries of a response from Hux's lips but found nothing of use in his unintelligible wheezes. Kylo's amusement quickly morphed into disgust as he released the man letting him fall limp to the floor.
"Find them." He yells leaving the command center in a freshly volatile mood.•••
Kylo breathed heavily as he swung his saber along the walls of The Finalizer. Once again rebel scum managed to narrowly avoid the grasp of The First Order thanks to the all too familiar guidance of General Organa.
It infuriated him to no end that his merit as a leader was pinned against that of his mother, and time after time she outsmarted him. More rebel sympathisers were sure to appear across the galaxy the longer The Resistance remained in the shadows.
Receding deep into his thoughts, Kylo let the room around him fade enveloped in the force. Used to the unforgiving nature of the dark side, he was surprised not to feel the usual cold that came with his meditations. What he sensed instead was an almost neutral presence adrift somewhere in the universe calling out to his consciousness.
He found it a more suitable consolation for his racing thoughts than the dark force he was expecting. It could have easily gone unnoticed had he not strained all of his energy on the strange anomaly. The feeling calmed him in ways he had only felt in rare fuzzy glimpses of his childhood.
"What are you?" He called out to the feeling from across the universe. A short silence ensued before he felt the being reach out once more.
"I sense great turmoil inside of you." A serene voice responded surprising the forsaken Jedi.
"How could you sense me from so far away? I barely noticed you." Kylo teased feigning ignorance to the unbridled rage he experienced just moments ago. More silence.
"Help me-" Was the last thing he heard the voice say before this connection was severed. Torn away from the tranquil force, Kylo was brought back to his usual throughs of the dark side. His frustration only seemed to further his connection with the elusive being, collapsing back into himself.
Sighing, he gave up the meditation and left behind the demolished room of melted metal and sparking cables. The fear he sensed while passing two stormtroopers standing guard would usually be enough to cause him a fleeting sense of satisfaction but his mind lingered on the meditation. Never in his life had he felt a call to such a neutral part of the force. Not even during his years of Jedi training.•••
Weeks passed before Kylo felt the presence again. An informant for The First Order alerted his fleet of a rebel spotting in a far away system. He had hoped the mission would be short lived and that they'd snuff out the resistance quickly.
Days went by during The First Orders occupation of the suspected planets and he was growing impatient. He decided to meditate to try and catch a glimpse of where they might be hiding feeling no closer to them then when he started. What he found instead was a draw to the mysterious force once more.
"You seem wakeful today." It called out to him. He couldn't help but notice how much stronger the call was since the last time they talked but decided to pushed it aside.
"I'm looking for something." He responds quickly, his patience thinning. "Do you think you could help me find it?" He asks following an instinct he didn't know he had before asking the strange being. The force goes quiet for a moment seeming to consider his request.
"I could... But you must promise to help me in return." It responds after a moment with firm resolve.
"And what would this help entail?" Kylo questions, curiosity getting the better of him.
"You will know when the time is right... As for you, I can hear what you're searching for planning their escape as we speak." The force beckons, taunting the commander with the information he craves.
"How did you?" He tenses trying to sense when the force had time to read his mind during their conversation.
"Your thoughts are loud when you think you are alone." It responds unbothered by the new apprehension starting to form within him. "Your decision?"
"It's a deal."
