Lies can hurt, but sometimes they're necessary.
Recently things have been going rather smoothly. I've been keeping up with my studies and training as usual. I've been going on plenty of missions too. Shoot, I even celebrated Halloween and Veterans Day with my Jedi and clones friends. So yeah, there may have been some bumps in my journey as a Jedi from all the hard missions I've been going on, but overall, I've actually been having a pretty good time. However, that was only until something rather unexpected happened... My master died.
Long story shot, it was just another normal day at the Jedi Temple. Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and I had just finished 3rd meal. I went off to tutor younglings as volunteer work. Meanwhile, the other three went off to do the evening shift of perimeter security duty around the Jedi Temple. Suddenly though, the Jedi Council called an emergency meeting. It was to address the threat of a potential terrorist attack. Apparently, the infamous Moralo Eval was rumored to be planning the capture and/or murder of Chancelor Palpatine. He wants to get him during the Chancellor's speech at Naboo's annual Festival of Light. That being said, my master messaged me and told me to be at the meeting. However, next thing I know, as I'm walking into the meeting, my master is nowhere to be found. Anakin and Ahsoka, who were also suppose to be there, weren't there either.
As the meeting soon began without my friends, I sat there alone in the stands, worried about where they might be. Them being late wasn't rare, but it still felt off. Fortunately though, Master Plo took notice of my unease, and came over to sit with me. After the meeting ended, the news about where my friends had been finally broke. During their shift, just as they were about to leave and come to the meeting, they were attacked by a sniper. In the fight that then occurred, my master unfortunately didn't make it out alive. According to Anakin, Ahsoka, and the medics that'd seen to him at the site, he'd been shot directly in the heart. I couldn't believe it. I was speechless. The one time I'm not there and able to heal him, he kriffing dies.
"Who will train the young girl now?" Master Mundi wondered, motioning to me. "With Master Kenobi gone, we no longer have an obligation to teach her."
"Part of the Jedi Order, Padawan Kath has become. Treat her like the others, we shall" Master Yoda declared.
"So then, are there any volunteers who care to teach Padawan Kath, at least, until the Reassignment Council takes care of her?" Master Windu prompted everyone at the meeting.
"Yes. I've actually grown quite fond of young Malaur, and so I'd be happy to step in for Master Kenobi. At least for now" Master Plo spoke up.
"Very well then; it's decided. Master Plo will teach Padawan Kath. Whether that be just for the meantime, or till she's knighted" Master Windu proclaimed.
That night I cried myself to sleep. Obi-Wan had done so much for me. And just how I viewed Halti as my mother, I viewed Obi-Wan as my father. I guess this meant that I'd lost both of my parents now... Since I didn't even know who my real ones were. Regardless, in the morning, I found it difficult to eat. I wasn't alone though. Both Anakin and Ahsoka found it difficult too. I mean, it was hard not having Obi-Wan at the table with us. 1st and 3rd meal felt so wrong without him.
That same day, Master Plo took me to see the Reassignment Council. After building a resume with them, and being interviewed by them, they put me on a waitlist. Thanks to the Clone Wars, I was very much not the only one on it. A lot of Padawans had lost their masters. On the contrary though, a lot more masters had probably lost their Padawans. So, I'd probably have a new master sooner rather than later. I just hoped that they'd be as good as Obi-Wan. On another note, Master Plo did mention that if we worked well enough together, he might actually consider finishing my training instead of just handing me off.
