CHAPTER 39
When Ansel opened his eyes for the second time, he was floating under the water. It took him a few seconds to remember why he was there, but when he did, it almost felt like a dream.
A dream he would have believed to be otherwise, if not for the power surging inside him.
He had made his wish come true, the Goddess had made him one of her children.
Happiness was rolling off of him and he knew he had to tell everyone, Brandel, so Ansel tried to kick his feet to swim up to the ground. He tried a few times but nothing happened. Confused, Ansel looked around himself and he could see two paws above him.
He looked down and registered that it was his own paws. 'I am a wolf!' he yipped happily when a voice rang inside his head, 'move along kid, you can't have me floating like this the whole time.'
The voice startled Ansel but he soon understood where it came from, so he gladly obliged and started kicking all of his legs. It took him a few kicks to grasp the momentum and soon he could see the shining layer of the lake.
'I am close!' he mused.
Swimming towards the edge of the lake he got hold of it with one paw and then pushed himself above and jumped, landing on the ground successfully.
When Ansel had thought of going through the whole plan, he had in his childishness thought of how he would tell everyone, show off his wolf, if he made it alive. He had thought of many dramatic scenarios, yet none could top the scene playing right in front of him.
Ansel had thought of gathering everyone and then flashily thought to turning into a wolf, surprising them, so why was the whole pack right there?
He looked around and his eyes landed on everybody, one by one. First he saw Connor, staring wide eyed at him like he had seen some ghost, then Brandel who was sitting like someone had died. Then his eyes fell on his father who had the same expression as Connor's and then his eyes met with the most hypnotic eyes he had ever seen.
He forced himself to see who these eyes belonged to and when he did, his breath stopped. One second his heart had died, and the next second it was on rampage.
'Quade!' he whispered to himself.
'Mate!' uttered his wolf, and his eyes widened even more.
'No, no, no, no, no!' he mumbled again and again. 'This cannot happen! How is he my mate? Why him?' Questions kept on popping in his mind and anxiety crowded his heart. His wolf kept on telling him to get a hold of himself, but he was too emotional to do so and ultimately lost control of his wolf.
When Quade muttered those words, everybody around him sucked in their breaths. Their eyes landed on the wolf that was shaking his fur to get the water off and another shock punched them hard. No one had ever seen this wolf; still they could feel Ansel in there.
But it did not make any sense. Other than Brandel who was semi conscious, only Connor was able to see what had really happened.
'Did what Brandel told me really was true?' He asked himself in disbelief, but he had no time to waste on such thoughts, as his Alpha was losing all control.
He looked between Quade and the other wolf, who might have been Ansel. The wolf was panting and looking at everyone one by one, confusion set in his eyes, yet when they met Quade's, they widened with realization.
Quade was about to lose control. His mind went haywire, and his wolf was clawing to get out, to claim his mate, to be close to them. With his human side already so weak, his wolf was gaining control over him and he was about to dash out towards whoever the other wolf was when stress rolled off the other wolf.
