You'd lived in the Basement, not the plague pit, the basement that was used as a bunker during the war. You'd lived in Button house for years, fearing the other ghosts. Alison checked up on you every day. The other ghosts where confused on why she always went into the basement. One day, she walked down and sat next to you. You looked at her confused. "They've caught on, Y/N. They want to meet you." She whispered. You took in a deep breath. You weren't ready. "Please." She begged.
"Fine. It's time." You said, standing up. Alison smiled and walked up the steps, you followed after. Your cold hands shook with fear of what they'd say. You felt the wooden floor below you, a floor you hadn't felt in 80 years. You followed Alison to the library where they all sat.
"Guys, this is Y/N." They all turned to look at you. You patted your uniform down and cleared off all the dirt. You waved to them. A caveman came to you and sniffed you. You flinched away from him and pushed him off. "He's just trying to be friendly."
"Hello, I'm Pat." The short man with an arrow through his neck put his hand out. You shook it eventually. A man behind you touched your head wound and you flinched and welped. You turned around and saw a man with no trousers stood with a bloody finger.
"Julian Fawcett MP, I'm sure you've heard of me." He stuck his hand out and you begrudgingly shook it. You then turned and saw a man with silver hair and a combed mustache in a uniform, medals and badges of honour on his chest. He was a Captain. He was a handsome man, broad shoulders and a good posture, holding a swagger stick. You saluted to that man.
"Hello, I'm Y/N. Pleasure to meet you, Sir." You introduced yourself, he turned to look at you. His eyes were drawn to your uniform as he smiled. He looked thankful that someone else who served in the army was there with him.
"Captain. Nice to have another war chap around." He shook your hand. You nodded at the taller man and smirked. You turned around at the sight of a Regency dressed man in your face, you welped and jumped back and bumped into the Captain.
"Sorry, Sir. Won't happen again, Sir." You saluted, it was a habit. You walked back and hit the Caveman, then in the other direction and his the MP. You bumped into a woman.
"Hello! I'm kitty, do you want to be my friend." She said, you laughed and walked into Lady Button.
"A man does not bump into a lady!" She shouted, everyone was chasing you. The MP, trying to ask your political party. Lady button, shouting about your manners. The caveman trying to sniff you. The Poet asking about what you think of his poem. Kitty asking for a sleepover. A soot covered woman, a headless man, a scout leader. You just ran out, back down in the bunker.
You sat in your corner, stressed from all the noise. A figure came through the door. You looked down, your head on your knees. "Ah, Hello." It was the Captain. You looked up and saluted weakly. "No need to salute." He laughed, kneeling down. You kept your eyes on him.
"What do you want, sir?" You asked, looking at the shelves of books that you could never read. The Captain sat down and looked at you.
"I wanted to see if you were alright? Your little panic upstairs worried me." He said, you shrugged. "Oh come on, listen to your superior!" He giggled, you paused, taking a deep breath.
"I'm not a fan if crowded places. Reminds me of the War." You replied, tears so close to spilling.
"Ah, right. I'm assuming it wasn't a good time for you. Not to get too personal but...did he die in the war?" He asked, you shook your head. He was confused.
"Right after we'd won. I found out my...friend, Philip, had been killed. I couldn't take it so I...shot myself in the mouth through my head." You explained, all the light in his face had gone.
"I'm so sorry." He said, patting your shoulder. You were so close to crying in front of a superior, how embarrassing. "You can cry." He whispered, holding your arm. You let it out. You let it all out. Latching your arms around his neck and sobbing into his shoulder.
"I should never had gone into that war." You cried into his shoulder, he patted your back and hugged you.
"I bet you fought well. You look like a strong soldier and an even better man." He assured you. "He would be so proud of you." He whispered, making you cry even more. Alison watched and didn't know what to do.
"I hate to interrupt but uh...Y/N, the others want to tell you something." She told you, you looked at her. Scrambling off of the Captain. "I won't tell anyone."
"I think Y/N needs some time alone. Lets give him some space." The Captain told her, she nodded and walked up the stairs, The Captain walked down after her.
"Wait." You said before Alison closed the door. He looked down at you. "Thank you." He smiled and she closed the door.
You sat in the bunker, trying to move books and flicker the lights, tears silently running down your face.
