To say I have been in high spirits for the rest of the day, would be an understatement.
For the remaining classes, I volunteered to answer questions and read out text. It's as if someone flipped a switch, creating a goody-two-shoes crossed with the sickening stuck-up nature of a brown-noser.
I walk down the hall with a skip in my step as I hum along to a song playing through my internal jukebox, thinking about one of today's many good moments.
I was approached down the hall, not for another Roast battle, but to be informed that I've been accepted into the Music Club.
Now it being the end of the day, I make my way over to my designated Club's classroom. Which is fitting, being located in the school's music room.
Who would have thunk it!
Peeking around the door frame, I'm met with a variety of kids whom I've never met before. Knocking on the opened door, I send the group a small smile, to which the students wave me in. "Oh, yay! You must be (L/N) Senpai, it's an honour to have you choose our club." A chipper girl comes to my side ushering me in and giving me a firm handshake in the process.
Her face is perfectly framed by a dark brown bob cut, as delicate freckles are scattered across her cheeks. But what stands out the most are her rich emerald eyes.
"Yeah, Um... you can just call me (Y/N)." I laugh out embarrassed.
Everyone was acquainted quickly, sparing no time as introductions being led by the Club President, Hina Nakamura, aka. Hina, aka. The girl with the green eyes.
The excitement for the day only grew. With it being my first day in the club, apparently, the whole group is obligated to have a little 'jam session'. I can't complain as I tap my foot to the beat of their smooth Jazz performance, clearly showing their dedication and passion for creative arts.
'They really know their way around the instruments!'
I clap enthusiastically as I'm seated on one of the desks pushed to the side of the room, the small band setup to the front of the class. "You were amazing! You, my friends, are some Groovy Cats~" I joke sending them finger guns.
They all laugh as the drummer twiddles his sticks around, dancing between his fingers. "Now it's your turn, show us how much of a 'Groovy Cat' you are." He chuckles, sticks lightly hitting on the drums, low punches of sound coming from the instrument as he taps away.
The beats of the drumming match the fasten pounding of my heart, adrenaline and anxiety filling me as a cold sweat runs down my spine, stomach rolling.
The request is to be expected, this IS a music club after all.
All I can do is nod as Hina shows me where the school's instrument storage room is, conveniently located to the back of the class. She unlocks the door and turns the light on, eliminating the holy grail of instruments. There is at least one of every kind to think of, and how they managed to fit them all in this small space is beyond me. "Pick whatever you want, there is also the piano out there that you can use if you want to!" She states excited as she takes her leave.
Swallowing the anxious lump in my throat, I gaze up at the mammoth mountain of musical instruments as a sense of intimidation wells up, now alone in the sea of timber, lacquer, and strings.
'What do I do?'
After a long debate, which resulted in me playing a shameful game of eenie meenie miney mo, I reemerge with an instrument hugged close to my body protectively.
The soft varnish on the wood was decorated with small etches and scratches from much love.
'I wonder how long they have had it for. Maybe it was donated?'
