Let's Start Again

Start from the beginning

"Hey, that looks like fun. Wanna try it out?" you nudge your shoulder torwards the attraction catching Finn's interest as well. "Heck yeah, maybe we could even win a prize or two?"
The two of you rush towards the man at the stall, you paid for two games much to Finn's embarrassment.

"I'll pay you after-"

"Finn it's fine, really." you reassure the boy while adjusting the toy rifle in your hands, already taking aim at the targets.

"Then I'll pay you with one of those prizes!" he points at the large stuffed pushes hanging from the stall. It's easy taking aim and shooting down the target that stand still, but the moving ones proved a tad more difficult, it didn't help that every pop noise from the rifle was starting to give you a headache. The noise amplifying the pulse in your temple with each pull of the trigger, you try to ignore it but it's easier said than done when you started getting flashes of... Something.

You're dragging a body through a blizzard, stepping into a portal that drastically changed your surroundings all together. You hear a voice but you're unable to decipher how they look like, only remembering a yellow and pink blur.
"Prismo, we need your help."
"Can you bring him back?" you recognize your own voice, but it's cracked and broken. Is it because of the person you're carrying? You try to focus to get a better look at the blue weight but you can't see it, only feel it. It's numbing, cold, heavy and worse of all, it makes you feel heartbroken with loss. What is this? Hallucinations? Memories? That doesn't make sense. From a dream? perhaps, cause it's too surreal to be real.

Your empty rifle clicked several times as you kept firing empty shots. The headaches and the hallucinations stopped all together, reopening your eyes to see how all the targets were shot down except for one.
"This blows, I'm sure I shot it more than once!" Finn huffs, with Jake by his feet instinctively barking at his owner's bad mood. You shake your head to wear off the effects of the hallucination, almost like when you're barely waking up from a dream that felt like an extensively long movie." Let's get outta here, no point in spending money on this scam." you stick your tongue out at the man behind the stall before leaving. You didn't really head off to anywhere specific, too lost trying to remember the details of what just happened, but just like how dreams go, the more you try to remember them the more you forget about it.

"Sorry I couldn't get you a prize (y/n)." Finn apologies out of nowhere, rubbing the side of his arm instinctively. You're taken a back from the young man, bumping him in the shoulder. "Hey I said it's fine, no need to sweat about it." you said with a wave of a hand. It's then that you realize where the two of you were unconciously going, anywhere away from the noisy market place and into the quiet wilderness where you can only hear the birds chirp.

"But I wanna repay you somehow, papa taught me to always pay up my debts!" Finn smacks a hand to his chest proudly, almost making you giggle again.

"Finn you don't owe me anything, chill out." you scratch your nose before an idea came to mind. "Wait, I think I have the perfect payment for you."

Just like Finn promised, he paid his debt  by the price of your choice. His music. The young man exaggerated earlier, his skills with the flute is the best you've ever heard in a long time, easily feeling at peace with the unknown melody he plays by his fingertips. The memory of the shooting gallery more than long gone by now, in fact, you couldn't even remember why it bothered you so much. After Finn finished playing his song you made sure to show your gratitude by clapping at his small performance, bringing a smile to his face despite the few missing teeth.

"Thank you, thank you what a lovely audience." he performs a playful bow.

"That was great, you should really play more often." you sat back in your spot as Jake curls up beside you, giving the dog a scratch behind the ear.

"Well, I wouldn't mind giving you a personal concert." Finn sat alongside you, storing his flute inside his backpack for safe keeping before giving Jake a scratch on the other side of his ear.

"Oh lucky me~ I hope the ticket isn't too expensive, would you mind if I pay with bananas?" you joke.

"Nope, the banana card is declined." Finn plays along with you. "Buut, how about I invite you for lunch sometime? We could make a picnic if you want."

"I'd love that." you felt your chest flutter at the thought. Due to the proximity you began to appreciate features that you originally didn't pay attention to, his sun kissed skin, a few indistinguishable freckles over his cheeks, he's missing a front tooth or two but that just makes him more charming and distinctive. "Finn, mind if I pay you in advance?" you ask shyly, but neither you or Finn dared to look away.

"With what?" he asks. You unconciously lick your lips for what's to come, placing a brief kiss on the corner of his lips where his mouth and cheek met. It took less than a second for Finn to realize the gesture with wide eyes, however once you started to pull away he dives in for quick kiss on the lips. Pulling back as soon as he did to check on your reaction, just to make sure you were cool with it.

It was your turn to look at him with wide eyes, but you breathed a small laugh before anything could feel weird. "Can't wait for that picnic and private concert." you beamed with a huge smile.

"Me too. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 1pm?" Finn asks, gingerly lifting his arm for you to grab.

"Sure thing." you grab hold of the offered limb, feeling an odd sense of deja vu but you're too happy to think about that now.  Nothing can ruin your mood today, not even your strange dreams about zombies, snow and talking dogs. All that matters is the present and the days that have yet to come.

"Technically I can if that's what you wish for, but in return you'll never remember anything of what happened in this time line." Prismo explains carefully, but no matter what he says it'll just go through you like a needle through thread. It's hard to concentrate when you're cradling Ice Finn's body to yours, a cascade of frozen teardrops you never thought you'd spill for him. Just him. If this is what it takes to bring him back, then you're willing to make the exchange.

Your eyes shift back to the human Finn in the room, unconciously happy to know there's other worlds where he doesn't go mad with ice and frost. "Just do it, he was crazy and cruel but he's a good guy... he's my Finn." you beg, digging your face in the ice prince's pale white hair.

"Very well. Just know that you're a good person (y/n), you're gonna help so many people."

You shut your eyes, awaiting whatever comes to you with an empty chuckle. "Guess that makes me a hero after all."

A/n: And with that I finally end this series to my liking. I never thought it'd get so much attention considering I only wrote it when I wanted a break from my current Adventure Time stories, but it's been a while since I took a hiatus from writing for that fandom (hence why it took so long to finish). Thanks for reading, and yes, I know some of you aren't happy with the story amount. Buuut, with those who commented that they loved this story, you guys are the reason why I wanted to finish it instead of leaving it unfinished~
