Adam is an alcoholic singer/songwriter, son of a music mogul who owns the country's largest recording studio. Adam spends his day reluctantly working for his father as a talent scout partying every night. He is on a self-destructive path when he accidentally meets a 19-year-old aspiring musician Eve. She bribes her way into a nightclub where Adam and his team hosted a talent scouting event for backup dancers. Not being a dancer or even old enough to be allowed into the club, Eve manages to sneak onstage in-between performances to sing a song she had written, hoping for a chance at making it in the music business. Hoping her teen crush will give her a chance.
The club was the last place Adam wanted to be, but David, his best friend, and partner convinced him it would be an easy night. Auditions for backup dancers how hard can that be? After all, they'd come to NY only for this. The hot new rockstar, a skinny tween they'd signed onto the label, needs to shoot a music video. Adam came to NY for a change of scenery and the women, of course. In fact, he was already buzzed sitting in a dark corner sipping his 4th whisky on the rocks. Adam didn't like crowds or being the center of attention, very unlike his stage persona. He wasn't pretending to be the brooding artist like a lot of his counterparts; he actually was one. Adam Eller was a tall, muscular man with broad shoulders with large hands. His piercing gray eyes were shrewd unless, of course, he is six shots in for the night, then they were a murky gray unfocused sexy. He dressed like an Irish mobster. He wore an expensive watch which gleamed in the dark, its gold shining brightly against the spotlights in the club. He sported red mahogany alligator skin shoes, a black tee, and light blue jeans, appearing casual, downplaying his expensive taste. But nothing about him was relaxed, and the glances women around him gave reflected that truth loudly.
Eve had just turned 19, a Jersey girl through and through. She was petite, barely 5:2, with long hair like spun gold and clear blue eyes like the sky. Eve has always been creative with her words, and music was her passion. Since the time she can remember, she has been a huge fan of Adam Eller and his soulfully raw and heart-rendering songs. But lately, he had all but disappeared from the music scene. There were rumors that he got his heart broken and that he was in and out of drug rehab.
His last song was about love and promises. She was so inspired by it she wrote a song using his catchy tune from that song. It was a risk, and she knew it. He could either love it or hate it, but she had to take the chance. When she heard that Adam would be at the scouting event, she had to go and sing for him.
The auditions were lackluster at best, but then he heard it. Dancing wasn't his expertise, so he let David make the final picks. After getting next to no interest from Adam, David simply stopped asking for his approval. Then something unexpected happened. A heartbreakingly beautiful voice was singing a song he'd never heard before, and yet it sounded familiar. The voice tugs at his heart like she was calling to him. At first, no one knew what was happening; there was utter chaos. Why was this girl singing on stage? There were shouts calling her to shake her ass or leave. David stood to approach the stage. All the while, Adam listened. He realized it was written for him connected somehow to his last song, the song about Anne. It was his hook and tune, but the words she was singing were her own.
"Don't worry we are getting her off stage." David said, noticing Adam's frown. Adam shushed him and continued to listen. In the dark, all he could see was a shadowy figure on stage.
"Who is that?" He asked
"Have no idea; came on stage and hijacked the mic...a fangirl, I'm sure...." Dave motioned his assistant, who was moving, turning off the sound system.
"No wait.. let her finish" Adam stopped him then said
"The lights... Get the lights..."
The lights came on, and he could see this slender girl with long curly blonde hair. She had a narrow waist and curvy hips. He could tell she was beautiful even from this far away and his vision cloudy from the haze of whiskey.
"She's good" David said, surprised.
"Yup ..." Adam admitted not giving much away.
It's been years since Adam had felt the stir of something even close to inspiration and tonight he was feeling it again, listening to this stranger on stage.
