It wasn't overly extravagant because Caspian had wanted a perfect balance of Telmarines and Narnians, wanting to give respect to the lives lost in the battle against Miraz and still hold a celebration for the now free Narnia.

The Ball was nothing like you had ever even imagined before, and seeing it in reality felt surreal.

The attendees were both humans as well as the various magical creatures that inhabited Narnia, even those that hadn't actually fought alongside Caspian, but wished well for the new King who wanted to unite the lands after thousands of years of oppression by the Telmarines.

The coronation itself hadn't taken very long. The Kings and Queens of the Golden Age stood in his support along with Aslan while Trufflehunter crowned Caspian his rightful title as you cheered with the crowd. Everyone then shifted to the huge ballroom where the celebration was to be held in the new castle.

The ballroom was decorated in shades of reds and gold reminding you of the conversation between Peter and Caspian had over breakfast last morning. From what you could tell, the latter was trying to extract as much information as he could about Cair Paravel, the castle the Pevensies had used to rule from and live in, and Peter was just as happy to indulge him.

And you had yet to hear what the High King thought of the decorations.

You had situated yourself in a corner, watching your friends have fun as they danced. Edmund was spinning Lucy to the beat, while Susan was talking to a very handsome prince of another land. You made sure to take a mental note of that, quality blackmail material for teasing your best friend later, you see.

The man of the day himself was talking with some Lords and Ladies, no doubt trying to secure their support for his reign.

Peter, however, you couldn't find anywhere. You took small steps forward, standing on your tiptoes even, but no such luck.

There was a tap on your shoulder that made you look behind to see the High King himself, his eyebrows raising up and down as if mocking you playfully.

"Looking for someone special?" The blonde asked with a smirk.

"Oh. No," You replied just as cheekily, "Is there anything I can help you with, Your Highness?"

"Well, considering that a dear friend of mine and a not-so-immediate successor of my throne are both too shy to ask each other for a dance, I supposed I could make sure that at least one of them is enjoying the coronation."

You smiled at him as he led you to the dance floor in the centre of the room, delicately, yet precisely, placing his hands on your body, hinting to the fact that he had obviously done this a lot of times before.

"I thought you'd be busy with the ladies, considering your status, legend and all." you said, motioning to his own crown.

Peter only chuckled mirthlessly before he spun you on the beast of the music, quick to give you a smile which undoubtedly was a frown in disguise.

"What's wrong Peter? Did Aslan say something to you?"

"You saw that, huh?" Peter exhaled deeply, "I had a feeling that you were spying on us."

"This isn't a time for jokes," you said while pulling him away from the dancing couples to whisper, "I did glance at your conversation but didn't hear a word of it, I promise... What's wrong?" you asked again.

"We aren't staying."

And just like that, three simple words shattered your heart in a million pieces while everything crumbled around you.
