Part 3 - This Is Where I Belong

Start from the beginning

No... no, no, no, this couldn't be happening! You couldn't go back to St. Finbar's, to the orphanage. You couldn't leave to go somewhere you never felt like you had a place in and live like everything that had happened here was nothing more than a dream.

Peter gently cupped your cheek, looking directly into your eyes as if he knew the turmoil you were going through.

"Listen to me, Y/N," he said solemnly, "I lost the most beautiful and smartest woman I knew just because I was too cowardly the last time I was in Narnia. I knew that she was the one for me but we suddenly went back before I could even confess and now she's long dead."

You just blinked, not knowing how to respond to him upon learning why he used to yearn so much for Narnia before. It wasn't just losing his kingdom, was it?

"It's painfully obvious that you two idiots have feelings for each other," Peter muttered, now holding your hands in his. "And I want you to act on them. I do not wish for you to go through the heartbreak I have endured, wondering if I'd ever return and regretting that I never told her how I felt."

He quickly glanced over your shoulder, subtly motioning at Caspian. "Look at him, pathetically glaring at us and acting all jealous. Go take him out of his misery and tell him what your heart wants."

You did have tears in your eyes, but you willed them away, kissing his cheek in appreciation before obeying him. You were going to ask him to elucidate about his lost love later, of course.

True to Peter's words, Caspian's eyes were narrowed, but then he noticed that you were approaching him just as he sat on his throne, relieving the council around him to go and enjoy the night.

His smile widened with every step you took as you neared him, seeing his pearly whites flashing as you bowed, extending your hand to him. "Would you care for a dance, my King?"

"Of course, my lady," he replied, his deep voice almost making you shiver. He situated himself against you as he elegantly wrapped his arms around your waist, seating to a now slow and romantic beat.

Your eyebrows knitted together at the sudden change in the genre, gaze flitting to where the musicians played their instruments. Not surprised to see Peter there, you rolled your eyes, causing the latter to wink at you, which only resulted in turning your head to cover your cheeks that had heated from embarrassment.

Caspian, however, noticed this exchange and you felt his body stiffen in discomfort. He cleared his throat. "Am I wrong to sense that Peter is courting you?"

Your eyes widened and you almost burst out laughing. Successfully calming yourself, you smiled instead, mentally thanking your warden for teaching you to control your feelings. "Yes. You are."

His tongue slipped out of his lips to wet it, and you found yourself unable to look anywhere else.

"Y/N?"

You hummed in reply, looking up at his eyes to find his gaze softening as he realized that there was nothing that stood between you two to keep you apart.

You were still slowly gliding on the floor, your mind absent to the world and failing to see that you two were the only ones who were dancing, all others now spectators to what was happening.

"I am in love with you. I think I have been ever since we bared our souls that night in Aslan's How." Caspian confessed, touching his forehead with yours, the act so intimate that your whole body was flush.

"I'm in love with you as well," You declared, "I cannot exactly pinpoint the exact event as you did, but I'm sure of it. You've helped me feel like I have a purpose, as if I have someone that's right for me and as if I belong. I want to thank you for it."
