Chapter 89 - Niall | Acceptance

Start from the beginning

At the same moment, a fake tear flowed down her cheek and she sobbed into a tissue. Her makeup was perfectly applied and her hair sat more flawlessly than ever. She thoughtfully furrowed her brow as she continued to look at me, but apparently she couldn't place who I was.

I straightened the tie of my suit and pretended not to know her either. It worked, because shortly after that she looked away again.

She's probably just here to pretend to mourn, when in reality she's just pissed that her good family reputation is completely destroyed. And she can't do anything in her power to ever straighten this out.

She was not alone in this because the Scott family also had to fight hard against the hatred of the public. The whole truth about Dereck Scott's illegal activities was published anonymously from the second the bullet hit Harry and a huge shit storm started shortly after.

There was a judicial procedure against the Scotts and the FBI is also slowly getting on the track of the Styles. Possibly the guys and I were involved... yeah fuck, of course we were.

When the pastor started talking and raving about Harry I really had to stifle a laugh, what the guy was talking about was just pure bullshit. Actually I should have given a speech, that would have been more appropriate.

Although if that would have been the case I probably would have cursed Harry for leaving me alone on this godforsaken world and well, that would have been less appropriate...

I suddenly felt a tear roll down my cheek, I hadn't realized how I had started to cry, but this way my sadness seemed more real.

I slowly moved away from the mourners and left the cemetery. On the way to the black SUV Range Rover with opaque windows, I pulled my prepaid cell phone out of my pocket. After that call, I'll have to throw it away.

I dialed the number I had memorized earlier and held the ringing object to my ear. At the same time, I opened the passenger door and slid into the seat next to Liam who started the car shortly after.

"It's done. No one suspected anything." I spoke into the phone, at the same time nodding assuringly to Liam. The latter nodded back and then drove onto the road that led far away from the cemetery.

"We'll meet at the agreed place." she replied, after which she hung up without saying another word.

It was a silent drive, I checked in between if someone was following us but this did not happen. We were not stopped and after almost one hours of driving we arrived at the agreed meeting spot.

Liam and I got out of the car at the same time. I let my eyes wander over our surroundings and looked up into the treetops. The fucking birds were happily singing around us and the only thing you could hear was nothing at all.

Fuck, I mean what should be here? All around us is just nature.

"I hate this fucking forest," I snorted as I looked around. Everything around us was just green. Green green green.

I hate the color green. Actually, I hate anything to do with nature.

"Why? Bad memories coming back?" teased Liam with a cheeky grin.

"Shut the fuck up, you were in that fucking net as much as I was," I growled at him, to which he just chuckled.

"Let's just go into this fucking hunting lodge, okay?" I shouted, annoyed. I just walked towards the entrance without waiting for an answer from Liam and he followed me, but the bastard couldn't help it and kept grinning in amusement.
