Ever since Erza's returned, he's different. And not in a good way.

You're worried about him. You finally tallk with him.

Some talk about violence and a little bit and some minor swearing. Also mentions not wanting to go on in life.

.......

"Erza, my sweet. Is something wrong?" You feel like you've asked him this a million times since he's returned.

He always says the exact same thing. That he's fine and that he doesn't have anything to say.

You know he's lying. Erza isn't one to just let crap go. You take his hand and just hold it, half expecting Erza to yank it away.

For a change, he clings to your hand. You look into his eyes. Erza looks like he's really struggling to hold it together.

"You know you can tell me anything," you whisper, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.

Erza sniffles loudly. You pull your hand away and instead, wrap your arms around him as he buries his face against your neck.

We sit there, in silence, not speaking for a long time. Erza straightens out and you reach over for a box of tissues, handing it to him.

Erza plucks several tissues from the box, blowing his nose and dabbing the tears from his cheeks.

"It was the worst I've ever dealt with, Y/N. For a while, I thought..." Erza's voice trails off.

You wait patiently until he continues. Your heart is aching for Erza's. You hadn't wanted him to leave you.

But he insisted he'd be all right. He couldn't have been more wrong.

"For a while I didn't think I'd make it through that shit. The only thing that kept me alive was you."

You hold his head against your chest, gently stroking his disheveled hair.

"I made an unwise decision. I got mixed up with this other man. I technically...killed him."

Your entire body stiffens. You know what Erza can be capable of. But to hear him speak so openly about it, is disturbing.

"He had a young daughter. We teamed up, begrudgingly, only so we could get the hell out of there alive." Erza stops, his breathing ragged.

"When I close my eyes at night, I can still see his face. It'll forever haunt me."

"I'm sorry," you whisper. Erza's hands clench into fists on your shirt. You kiss his face and head.

"Don't be. I brought that madness on myself. You told me not to go. I was stubborn and didn't want to listen. Now I truly wished I had."

"Hey, ssh. Shh. I'm not going to hold any of those bad deals against you, Erza. I love you too damn much."

"You're too good to me, Y/N. I don't deserve you." You lean in closer, capturing Erza's lips with your own. Your love for him swells.

"Don't think that way. You do deserve me. And I appreciate you finally fessing up and telling me why you've been acting the way you have been."

Erza straightens up and pulls you into his arms. You snuggle against him. You close your eyes and feel yourself melting into him.

"It wasn't the easiest thing to admit," Erza murmurs softly. "But it was beginning to eat me alive."

"They say confession is good for the soul. However, sometime, I don't think that's always the truth."

You feel Erza's lips on your face and you smile, opening up your eyes to look at him.

"I couldn't agree more, my sweet. I'm just happy that this was one of those times that it was a good thing."

.....

You know that Erza's changed. And probably not necessarily for the better. Anyone who has lived through the toxic experience that he has, it's bound to happen.

But you told him the truth. You still love him. And you're terribly relieved that Erza finally told you what happened.

"It was a frightening experience, my sweet," Erza admits. "However, when one is involved in such dishonest dealings, danger tends to follow."

"Yes," you say. "It does."

"You know that I was wounded. If it hadn't been for that girl, well, I'm certain you know where'd I'd be."

You hug Erza closer, feeling enjoying the feeling of his solid body against yours.

"Let's not dwell on that. I'm just happy you returned to me. Changed or not."

Erza kisses you tenderly. He looks...happy. The happiest you've seen him since he returned.

"Yes, Y/N. Let us dwell on our blessings and not the hardships."
