Autumn leaves danced along the sidewalk as Connie flew down the road. You clutched your hands together in an attempt to keep your fingers warm. "My car takes a while for the heater to kick on right...I'm sorry..." Connie apologetically trailed off. You rubbed your hands together to create more heat. "Oh, don't worry about me. I'm used to the cold." You nonchalantly mentioned. Connie's eyebrow raised slightly. "What do you mean?" He asked. You tensed up, but took a second and collected yourself. "Oh, just that I used to visit family in the north on winter breaks, so it was way colder up there than it is here." Connie's head nodded. "Oh, true. I bet it was colder up there." He cleared his throat slightly before talking again. "I won't lie, I'm nervous for Captain to see me in person. He might actually kill me." His pitch raised the faster he talked. You blurted out laughing. "Levi definitely will not kill you. He is pretty intimidating but he is very kind." Connie began to cackle, swerving the car slightly as his laughter shook his body. "Connie! Watch the road!" You anxiously commanded. Connie continued to laugh, slowing his speed as he wiped away several tears away from his eyes. "Phew, Y/N. You should be a comedian. We do not have the same experiences with the Captain. You should have heard him call me to go find you in that store! He made it sound like it was life or death!" Your phone began to vibrate. You pulled it out to check it. Your father's name was on the lock screen.

You hit decline and put your phone back in your pocket. Connie noticed you turning to your phone. "If you need to get that you totally can! I can shut up." You shook your head. "No, it's nothing important." You lightheartedly smiled. Connie's lips pursed. You watched him from the passengers seat. His non driving leg bounced up and down as he continued to drive. "You got something on your mind? Other than being nervous to run into Levi?" You softly ask. He hesitated. "Kinda. Y/N, I just want to say I'm glad you are working at the bar with us. You fit in well with all of our misfit personalities and you actually make Captain bearable. I know you know that I'm friends with Eren..." He trailed off. You gulped quietly, feeling like you know where this was going. "I'm assuming he told you his current situation?" You timidly asked. Connie sighed. "Yeah, he is a dumbass. I just wanted to clear the air so that you hopefully won't be so uncomfortable when we are all around each other in the bar. I could cut the air with a knife from all the tension between the two of you! He told me what happened, and he is definitely in the wrong and he knows that. But...I also know he feels extremely guilty and it's something he would never do again. I've grown up with Eren. This is not me defending his actions, because I already told him I'm team Y/N, I just say this in hopes that maybe you could forgive him one day."

You sat silently in the passenger seat of Connie's car. From the silence you spoke up, "I mainly just feel awful for Mikasa. I know she hates me because she probably thinks that I knew about her the whole time. I swear I didn't though! The look on her face when she saw me with Eren. I replay that moment in my head every time I see Eren. I feel so much sadness for her." You looked down at your feet as you spoke, hoping Connie wouldn't see the tears forming in your eyes. Connie put one of his hands on your shoulders, patting you gently to comfort you. "Listen, Mikasa is a big girl. She will get over it. She has always been extremely protective of Eren, even before they dated. In her eyes, he cannot do wrong so she will place blame on you. I don't think it'll be like that forever though. So, until then, the rest of us will guard you and sway her away from beating you to a pulp." He laughed. Hearing Connie's laugh made you giggle, you smiled at his poor attempt to cheer you up. "Thanks Connie, I do think this talk helped." He saluted you as he grinned. From your window you could see the bar in the distance. You turned to Connie's backseat to check the groceries the two of you had bought. "So, what's the plan with all of these? I obviously rode with Levi to work today, so it may be a while before I can take anything back to the house." You asked. Connie's driving slowed as he began to parallel park on the sidewalk in front of the bar. "No problem at all. My shift is over for today, so I can just take all the food back to my apartment that way nothing goes bad. Plus, Sasha, me, and Nicolo can cook all the grub anyway." You start to get out of the car to unload the groceries that you will take. "Who is Nicolo?" You asked. "Oh! Duh, it's Sasha's boyfriend. He is a chef at the café she works at. He is great, you'll love him!" Connie exclaimed.
