Dawn broke out over the top of the horizon, casting its golden and orange light onto the ground at your feet. The town bustled with its morning activities, like people setting up shop and others running early errands. You hummed to yourself as you gandered through store windows. "There's a joint at the end of the street that's good. We'll go there." Sanemi said, dragging you away before you could notice yet another kimono 'you had to have'.

You followed him through the streets. He walked quickly and briskly. He kept his hands shoved in his pockets, his eyes glued to the ground, and his posture slouched. You furrowed your brow, but decided to shrug it off. He's just tired. I did wake him up before sunrise, after all.

The door swung open and a little bell chimed above you. You both sat down and someone hurriedly brought you some menus. You flipped through one, although you already knew what you were going to get. "So. Sanemi." You said, sliding the menu to the side. He didn't glance up, and instead turned the page of his menu and drumming his finger tips on the table. "Sanemi?"

He set it down and looked up finally. "Yes? Y/n?" He looked slightly pissed off.

You narrowed your eyes at him. "Are you all right? You're grumpier than usual. And that's saying something..."

"Yeah. I'm fine." He picked up his menu again and continued to ignore you.

"Okay, listen here mister. I'm taking you out on that date I promised when you were sick, and you're going to have a good time. So, what can I do to cheer you up? I don't like seeing you so... blah. Y'know?"

"Blah? I'm not blah." He scoffed subtly. "It's nothing."

You snatched the menu from his hands before intertwining your fingers. You rubbed your thumb along the back of his hand, tracing a scar that was there. "Sanemi... what's wrong?"

He sighed and hung his head. "Damnit. I thought I was better at hiding stuff."

"Yeah, well, you're not." You teased, leaning in closer to him. You gave him a quick peck on the lips and sat back, still one hand holding his while the other propped up your chin.

"Clearly."

You waited patiently for him to tell you what was up.

He sighed again and bit his lip. "So, you know how a little bit ago you were all like 'oh no I suck at this relationship thing!',right? Well, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I'm the one who sucks. I mean, I pissed you off at the hot spring, then further when I blew you off towards the end of my stay in the village, and then I also ruined your childish fun in the fountain..." He didn't realize how tightly he was holding your hand, only seizing it harder when he finished.

"Oh, Sanemi... You're fantastic. Arguments are healthy as long as their sorted out properly. That goes for anyone. I was being a total pissbaby at the hot spring, and then I was just worried about you and your bother." He tensed up and flared his nostrils in protest, but held his tongue. "Okay, that's baggage that can be unpacked later... For now, I just want to assure you that I don't in fact hate you, okay-?"

"Are you ready to order?" A waitress smiled down at you.

"I'll take the miso soup." Sanemi nodded.

"I'll take steamed rice, thanks."

The waitress nodded and walked off.

"Anyway, I was being childish in the fountain, but sometimes that can be fun. You should try it sometime, asshat. Oh, and I know you're lacking in the smarts department and all, but do you really think I'd still be hanging out with you if I didn't like you?"
