1. What inspired you to write my blossoming redemption?
It was an idea sprung from nowhere really haha. I love the trope of forbidden romance, and I know a lot about hospitals and healthcare so I wanted to combine the two. Then the idea that this woman's husband was sick popped into my head from another book I'd read. Then the religious aspect came in from people I know plus another book. I kind of just researched Huntington's disease and then started writing. Then it snowballed haha
2. Why the title 'blossoming redemption?
I changed the title not long ago! It used to be called "Coveted Temptation." but as I wrote more of the book, it didn't seem to fit it. My friend and my husband helped me name it My Blossoming Redemption. The idea that Aspen spends her life-redeeming everything in her own eyes, plus the blossoming from the romance and her growth is the reason behind it ;)
3. Do you relate to the characters in any way? I definitely relate to Aspen. Though I didn't have her exact life (thank goodness!) I do come from a very controlling childhood, so I found that aspect easy to relate to.
4. What was the most difficult part of your writing process?
Always editing, and starting. I loathe editing, who doesnt?! haha. But starting a brand new book always gets me a little anxious. I think because it's brand new and though I know the characters, I dont know them *really well* yet, so it's always a concern of mine!
5. How do you develop your plot and characters?
My plots usually start from a theme. Forbidden romance, childhood best friends. Sometimes I'll start with the plot itself and it'll grow outwards. But I always start with one thing and throw in ideas like "what happens if this happened" or "What about this person to mess it up" and I'll keep throwing out ideas until one fits and feels right. My characters always seem to come secondary, but I let them grow on me naturally and let them tell me their story, which sounds weird XD
6. Do you get creative block?
Yup! A lot. I've just managed to come out of one with my NaNo project. I couldn't finish it for days, but I finally just got through it. Writing something else helped there... haha
7. How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
The thing I found is that you can't please everyone. As. long as someone gives me their criticism nicely, I'm open to it. You just have to work out what's opinion and what's factual. If it's a criticism of my grammar, cool, I'm always learning, and I know I'm not perfect! If it's just an opinion then I'll listen to what they suggest and then decide whether I want to use it. If they are just plain to mean, I ignore them. Especially on a book like MBR which is heavy on controversial themes, I know I'm going to get negativity. It's just a reaction. I'm fine with it. But if they get too nasty, I will absolutely delete comments and block them. Attack my grammar, not me is what I say! I think my age helps me have a thick skin, I've had a lot of it in my 28 years to just get over it HAHA
8. You have an upcoming book, tethered destinies, tell us a little bit about it.
I do! I’m hoping to post the prologue in a couple of days! It’s something slightly different to my usual books. It’s slightly paranormal and it’s based around the “red string of fate” myth. But I’ll throw in the usual Alex type of romance bits too :) I’m so excited about it! I’ve been planning it for so long I thought it’s about time I started it!
9. What's your writing kryptonite?
Usually music haha. Music inspires me in every way.
10. Does writing energize or exhaust you?
It depends on the plot usually haha. With books like My Blossoming Redemption, I was SO ENERGISED with it. I couldn’t stop. But some plots like my book PerfectlyUnexpected exhaust me. It depends on the plot and characters ;)
11. Any advice to upcoming writers who wish to venture into the same genre you write?
Keep writing! 抖阴社区 for you and no one else. ❤️
Well noted! Thank you for taking part in this interview, one last question, to the fun part, what is the best Wi-fi name you have seen in your entire life?
No worries! Thank you for interviewing me! Oooh, the best one is probably “USE ME”. Clicked on it and they’d put a password on. Talk about disappointment! Hahaha.
