The snow didn't wear off throughout the night, it was still snowing when I woke up the next morning. Luckily, the storm had passed, and it was possible be outside without any concern. I felt so tired when I got out of bed, my slumber had gotten interrupted a few times, I kept dreaming about an incident that had occurred recently.

My arm was hurting even more than yesterday, it took me a while to get dressed because of it. The burning pain made me concentrate for a few seconds to ease it after I finally had my jacket on. The big scratch that went down from my shoulder over my upper arm had been cleaned with the remaining stuff in my saddle bag, but it didn't seem to heal very fast. Usually, my wounds closed up after just a day but this one seemed to be tricky, I should keep an eye on it.

Nobody was in the big hall downstairs, half eaten breakfasts were on the table and it looked like the Witchers had left in a rush. I grabbed two pieces of white bread from a basket and made my way over to the door. A dozen of footprints led away from the building over to the training tracks. I followed them while eating my food and after a while, I could hear the mechanisms of the course in the far, along with shouts from male voices.

As I approached the scene, I saw the Witchers standing in front of the obstacle course where a blonde girl was carefully mastering the first part. Some of the men were cheering her on, others watched her with careful eyes. I swallowed the last bite and stepped between Geralt and Vesemir. The girl had made it over to the rotating spikes, which made the crowd applaud.

"Yes, go on, Ciri!"

"You got it, stay focused!"

She took a deep breath and slowly got closer to the sharp spikes, trying to figure out the rhythm of how they moved. This must be the guest Geralt had brought to Kaer Morhen. But how did a teenager end up in the company of a Witcher?

I was curious to ask but I kept that question to myself because I didn't want to miss what the teenager would do next. It seemed like she understood the speed of each spike ring and made her attempt to get through it - She made it on the first try without a scratch and moved on to the last part. Another deep breath before she shot her shot and succeeded with ease.

I crossed my arms. "She's quite good."

Geralt nodded. "Unfortunately."

"Don't you want her to be?"

"She is a human and wants to become a Witcher." He looked over to me, seeming deeply concerned. The girl was a human, unlike him – He could get healed after getting hurt, she could easily get killed during training. "And with every new skill she masters and with more practise, she gains confidence. The idea of becoming a Witcher is already stuck in her brain ... and it will kill her eventually."

I frowned and watched the blonde complete the course. The Witchers clapped when she jumped down into the snow. "Then, why do you let her train on there in the first place?"
