It was 11 pm and the kids were fast asleep. Kyle was in the guest room and Albert was on the air mattress downstairs. Usually, when babysitting overnight, Y/N and Albert would sleep in the downstairs air mattress. But this time, much to Kyle's happiness, Y/N said he needed to sleep in his own bed that night. Albert put his hand on his elbow and asked if he was okay, but with Kyle's voice ringing in his head, he walked home. Walking from Albert's touch to through the door felt like running in molasses. You had to leave, you needed to, but you didn't want to. Your heart screaming no and your head knowing better.
He lay in bed that night, hands on his stomach, breathing in and out. Wide awake. Albert texted, "You okay?" he said back, "I'm fine." he turned off the phone and left it on the nightstand. "Want me to come over?" he looked at his phone and read the text, ignored it and went back to being wide awake. He knew he had to fight back, but he knew he couldn't. His phone rang. It rang in the special ringtone set for Albert, a sing-songy tone, full of happiness and love, unfit for his current situation. Reminding him of the pain. He put his hand right above the phone, finger ready to accept. His moment of rebellion and confidence ended quickly and the call stopped. He turned the other way, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.
:two hours later:
He woke in the middle of the night to something crawling in his bed. Not a creature, but a human. It slowly dragged its sleepy self to behind him and dug its head into her back. It felt warm, loving. He put a hand on it to try and figure out who it was.
He sat up, the person laying still.
"Adam?"
He opened his eyes to look at his older brother.
"What are you doing?"
"I had a nightmare."
"Okay," he lay back next to him, eyes closed.
"I thought you were awake."
"Why?"
"Your phone rang a couple times and dinged a lot."
Y/N checked his phone.
8 missed calls
14 texts
All from Albert.
Y/N sighed.
"Are you okay, Y/N?"
Y/N parted his lips. His thoughts were a storm.
"I have stuff on the ready."
"We're prepared."
"You can tell me," whispered Adam, breaking into his daydreams.. or night dreams, supposedly. Since when were 12 year old's nice?
Y/N sighed. "The kids I'm baby sitting.."
"Are annoying?"
"No, their older brother is visiting and he is blackmailing me. Telling me if I don't leave Albert, he'll do bad things."
"Like... what?"
Y/N turned around to face Adam. "Things."
Adam paused. "You don't have to tell me. He's an a-"
"Adam!"
"I was gonna say 'awful human ', but okay!"
"Yeah right," Y/N laughed.
"He is just trying to get to you. Ignore him,"
"It isn't that easy,"
"He'll be gone one day, soon. Albert knows better, and he loves you. Even if he succeeds, he won't. Don't worry."
"Thanks, Adam,"
"Of course. Can I come over tomorrow?"
"Yeah," Y/N giggled, messing up Adams hair. They both laughed tiredly and fell to sleep.
