Coal-
The weeks flew by and it was a new moons night. I walked into her job she was sitting with Jake talking. She must've heard the door open because she quickly turned to me with a big smile. "Hey you ready to go?" Jake glared at me. I shrugged off his death stare and looked back to Sapphire.
"Yep!" She got up, I walked over to the door and opened it up for her. The sun was setting outside and would disappear any time now.
"Hey before we head back to your house there is a place I want to show you," I said looking at the ground, I don't know why I felt so nervous for her to speak.
"Alright!" She smiled happily up at me. You could see the sunset reflecting in her eyes. I nodded and started to walk into the forest. She stopped on the edge looking at me, I could see her trembling. "You told me not to, a-and it's really dark in there right now..."
I walked back over to her and grabbed her hand, intertwining her fingers with mine. "Don't worry, I've got you," I looked into her eyes the fear that was vaguely in them had now fully disappeared. "I promise," she nodded and we continued on into the forest. For a while we didn't speaking, she would jump at every little noise, which is when I would squeeze her hand and turn back to her with smile to reassure her. She was so adorable even when she was scared, at times when I would look back at her I would see the lost child in the woods from four years ago. And I was there to guide her back to safety like always.
"Where are we going?" She said stepping closely behind me.
"It's a surprise," she looked at me with irritation.
"Like I need any more of those," she smarted off.
"Okay, we're almost there, come here." I stopped and she came up closer to me. I stood behind her and covered her eyes with my hands. "Okay, I'll lead you." She walked blindly up a hill. On top of this hill was a large tree. This was a spot I went to frequently when I wanted to clear my head. I had never brought anyone else here. Only Tom and Ian knew where it was when they sniffed me out.
We walked under the tree when she tripped, I grabbed her arm and fell with her to the ground catching myself right above her. My heartbeat quickened, it was so loud. My breath picked up, I could her heart pounding faster as well. Her hair was pooling out on the ground around her head. Her pale complexion and blue eyes sticking out in the starlight, glowing brightly. Her arms draped up over her head. Her red tie from her work uniform lay across her chest then around her neck hanging off of a short sleeve black button up shirt. I pushed my torso up more so she didn't know how excited it made me to see her under me. "W-We're here," I stuttered, damn why did I stutter, that was so smooth. I could feel my body heating up the longer we stayed like that. Her face was turning 20 shades of red the more I looked at her. I blinked a few times and stood up pulling her up with me. She looked around her face returning back to the pale color of peach it was before. She dusted the dirt off the back of her shorts and looked around.
"This place is beautiful..." She said looking over the cliff edge and over the treetops that reached the top of the edge of the cliff.
"Yeah, it is..." I swallowed hard debating my next sentence. "You know it's almost as beautiful as you..." I averted my gaze to the ground when she turned to look at me, slowly I looked back up at her. She was looking at me with a slight smile and pink cheeks.
"Thank you..." She said stepping closer.
"I'm only telling the truth," I laid down in the soft grass. Lightning bugs were flying all around flickering their small lights. One landed right on the tip of my nose. I wiggled my nose but still it didn't move. Sapphire laughed and brushed it off my face and laid beside me. We looked at the stars for a while, the beautiful stars above that shined so bright even when the moon was gone. It was moments like this that I loved the night and all its glory. We sat there in the cool grass just talking about anything and everything.
