Suck it and see

Arctic Monkeys

Y/n alarmingly stepped down the stairs, careful not to wake her dad up. She had a warm jacket over her thin shirt to keep her safe from the chilly weather of October.

She stepped outside of her house and gently shut the front the door.

She looked ahead of her, only to see the same boy she was hoping to see sitting on one of the two chairs set out on the yard.

Y/n smiled at the sight of him and walked across the road to his direction.

He was smoking his cigarette and taking sips of alcohol from a little container he was holding.

He looked lonely.

He looked lost.

"Hey." She said and sat down on the chair next to him. The chairs were a bit farther away from one another, and that was probably for the best considering what these two had been up to together before.

He didn't say anything back. They sat in silence for a while, the cloud of nicotine smoke coming from his mouth, condensing in the air around them.

The night was dark and cold. There was a chilly breeze running through the streets of Kingston that night and even more so the inky sky made the stars in the sky commendable.

They twinkled happily, as if they had achieved everything and only had one thing left to do, to shine.

Y/n smiled up at the sky and stared back down at her hands. She played with the plain silver ring on her finger, a ring she wore always.

At this moment she felt rather vulnerable and soft, perhaps it was the state of the night, or perhaps it was him.

She noticed how much she blushed whenever he was around, how she thought of him all the time.

She thought of conversations and jokes the two of them might have, she thought of scenario's where he'd hug her from behind and kiss her cheek, how he'd take her hand and crack a joke about how her hair looked that day.

He was in all her thoughts, even in the simplest ones, he was there.

It frustrated her how she felt so much about  someone who didn't even notice these little things.

She let her thoughts wander as the eerie yet comfortable silence was bestowed upon them.

Tom took a sip of liquid from his small black container laced with leather, and licked his lips.

"She broke up with me." He said.

It was rather an odd thing to begin with, but at least she knew the kiss wasn't the reason why he hadn't said anything.

"I'm sorry." She muttered and he only sighed in return.

"I don't get it." He took another gulp of the liquid.

"Well, I mean." Y/n paused awkwardly. "She did see you kissing me-" She stopped as Tom's eyes moved from the road up front to the grass beneath them.

He hadn't met her eyes for the last few minutes of her being there, and it was something she noticed.

"It's not about her. For all I care she could go die in a ditch. I never liked her." He sighed.

"I don't understand."

"I have a reputation. One I like to maintain. Out of every girl I've been with, she's the only one dumb enough to come back to me."

He began blowing on his cigarette once again.
