Chapter 19: The Resolution

"Did— Did you see something?" Felix strangely asked with an openly worried expression.

Zion raised a brow while maintaining an unimpressed facet. "Ano'ng something?"

"Something . . . mesmerizing?"

"No, ano'ng pinagsasabi mo?"

"Good that." Finally, Felix's face relaxed and he heaved a sigh of relief.

Zion could not make sense of his actions but one thing's for sure, something's strange happened to his friend.

After climbing down the stairs, they walked back to the lounge but surprisingly, wala na sila Misael at Axton. Ang natitira na lang na nakaupo ay ang babaeng kasama ni Morgana sa pag-uwi. The tall woman who hasn't been named yet.

"Yo, little dumplings, how's squirrel?" tanong ng babae na nakaupo sa couch at saka ibinaba ang hawak niyang phone.

"Who's squirrel?" kunot-noong tanong ni Zion.

"Well, Morgana."

"May hinahanap siya. Now it's our turn to ask. Who are you?"

"Oh~ I haven't fully introduced myself, huh? My name's Jettel Labrador. Senior niyo ako. And why am I here? Someone recently hired me to look out for Morgana in the school."

"Ho?" The corner of Felix's thin lips lifted, displaying his signature smirk. "Your surname fits you perfectly. You must be that someone's dog."

"PAANO PO ako makakasiguro na hindi mo siya sasaktan?" seryosong tanong ni Axton matapos niyang isara ang pinto ng cab kung saan sila nakasakay. When he shifted his eyes to the cold guy next to him, he tried his best to be optimistic despite of the raging aura that was keeping him out of reach.

"If he intends harm to my sister, hindi ko mapapangakong hindi ko siya sasaktan."

"Matagal ko na siyang kasama. Alam ko na po ang intensyon niya."

"Talaga?" Misael landed his stern gaze to Axton, both arms and legs crossed. If one would observe, it feels like he has an authority to manipulate anything like a king. "Tell me. why did he start a war?"

Axton sighed. "You know what your sister did. A lot of hideous acts. Pero ngayong nananahimik na siya, not to exaggerate but all of us are confused, aren't we? So he posted that video to see through Morgana. To attack her first before she does something. It doesn't mean his loss after launching one attack— he probably has a lot of things up in his sleeves against your sister."

"Let's just talk to him first."

"But I've been meaning to ask this. Lately, isa ka nang big brother kay Morgana— you started looking at her way. At ngayon, handa ka pang protektahan siya. It wasn't that long when you completely neglected her existence." Axton focused his gaze on the other side, looking through the window and watching the rain pour down the street. Every people on the pavement carried an umbrella with them while the others ran under their attache case.

Nanahimik si Misael. Hindi niya alam kung magpapakatotoo ba siya ngayon o iiwasan ang tanong.

"Nandito na po tayo."

Misael and Axton met the driver's gaze through the rearview mirror. After paying the fare, they went out of the cab after opening the dark umbrella to shield themselves from the drops of the frigid rain. Pumasok sila sa isang apartment at umakyat sa floor kung nasaan ang unit ng taong hinahanap nila.

"Kailangan pa nating maghintay nang ilang minuto bago siya makauwi," wika ni Axton at tumingin sa suot niyang wrist watch. "Pero may duplicate key naman ako kaya mauna na tayo sa loob."

He gripped the key from his pocket and inserted it in the keyhole. When they heard it clicked, Axton felt the little goodebumps after he pushed the door open. Bukas ang ilaw ng unit pero sobrang tahimik ng paligid, kung hindi isasama ang ingay ng ulan.

"Meow~"

Sinalubong silang dalawa ng isang puting pusa. The cat rubbed its head on Axton's feet but hissed after meeting Misael's bone-chilling gaze.

"Hello, Lily!" Axton smiled and knelt down to carry the feline on his arms? Pumasok siya sa unit at inobserbahan ang paligid. It's the usual, nothing's new to Axton's eyes— everything's still clean and neat. "Masyadong lonely pa rin rito. I'm surprised that he doesn't carry you to school anymore. Magaling ka na ba?"

"Who're you talking you?"

Lumingon si Axton sa likod niya. He noticed Misael hasn't still stepped in and just remained outside. Napakunot siya nang noo nang makitang may hawak na rin itong isang stick ng sigarilyo. Misael lit the stick and started smoking, like those usual hot daddies in fictional worlds where the girs would be simping wildly.

"The cat."

I didn't know that Morgana's brother smokes, Axton thought.

Gaya ng sinabi niya kanina, naghintay pa sila nang ilang minuto. Pinalipas niya ang oras sa paglalaro kasama ang pusa ng may-ari ng bahay, sinusubukang alisin ang kaba na baka may mangyaring hindi maganda dahil nandito si Misael.

"You're still not gonna tell me kung ano'ng gagawin mo kay Louwis?" Axton asked like how a man of temerity would do.

"Huwag kang mag-alala. Hindi mamamatay ang kaibigan mo."

"Bubugbugin mo lang?"

"Hindi."

"You're not gonna stoop to anything low, right?"

"Glad you know."

"Sa tingin mo ba talaga mareresolba 'to sa pag-uusap lang? You seriously look like you got a sister complex after all."

Misael once again met Axton's gaze and dropped the cigarette from his hand. Matapos niyang tapakan 'yon, tumingin siya sa baba ng apartment at bahagyang napangisi. "He's here."

Axton became more anxious. Hindi naman siya ang nagsabi na si Louwis ang may pakana ng paglabas ng video sa internet at sa school. Somehow, Misael discovered it all by himself— his keen eyes and observation skills became handy.

Narinig niya ang mabibigat na yabag sa corridor. Hindi niya makita si Louwis dahil nasa loob na siya ng unit pero base sa mga mata ni Misael na nakatayo sa tapat ng pinto, two of them were engaged in a staring contest.

"I didn't tresspass," walang emosyong sabi ni Misael. "Kasama ko si Axton. Nandoon na siya sa loob ng bahay mo."

"Ano'ng ginagawa mo rito?"

Namataan na ni Axton si Louwis sa tapat ng pinto at kaharap na ang bisita nito. He just wanted to observe from afar, but prepared to get in between in case the talk ends in violence.

"Nandito lang naman ako para kausapin ka tungkol kay Morgana."

Bumaling ang tingin ni Louwis kay Axton— the latter thought that he had been cursed, but seems like Louwis was observing the cat on his friend's arm. Hindi ito agad sumagot sa sinabi ni Misael kundi pumasok muna siya sa unit at kinuha ang isang panali ng buhok. He tied his long white silky hair in a ponytail and then turned his head back to Misael, making his hair dance in the air.

"Your little sister? Napa-check up mo na ba siya?" All of them sensed the fake concern.

Bumungtong-hininga si Misael at umiwas ng tingin. Humakbang siya nang ilang beses para makapasok sa unit. What he did next surprised both Axton and Louwis— sumabay pa ang malakas na kidlat nang yumukod si Misael, gaya ng tradition sa Japan o Korea.

"I'm sorry for everything she did."
