7:47 PM, The Park

You walked down the steps of the house, headed to get a drink of water from the kitchen. You've already been hearing the ruckus downstairs from 'Guy Night' for the last hour and 47 minutes. As you arrived at the last step, you saw Pops and Thomas watching Mordecai, Rigby, High-5 Ghost and Muscle Man play video games. Pops was talking about joining in on Guys Night, and Thomas was thrown some keys and told to go grab more chips. He rolled his eyes and walked out the door, you decided to follow him.

The night air was refreshing, having been cooped up in your room for so long working on papers for recreational activities. Catching up to Thomas, you pat his shoulder, alerting him of your presence.

"Oh, [NAME], I'm glad to see you. I was getting pretty tired of always going out on these trips by myself." He smiled at you, causing a feeling inside you to stir. You looked away, hiding the heat rushing to your face. What was happening? You shrugged it off, trying to get the courage to look him in the eye again.

"Yeah, I'm here to protect you from any bad guys on the streets!" You winked, flexing your non-existent muscles and he laughed. God, his laugh was amazing. He asked if you wanted to drive or walk, and you chose to walk. He agreed, it was nice to be able to get away from the occupants of the house once in a while. You both talked on the way to the store, but something felt off. His eyes kept shifting from place to place, yet he was still able to reply full heartedly. You even felt like you were being watched but shrugged it off as just paranoia due to the night. Concern was filling your eyes and he noticed that.

"Thomas, are y-" He quickly covered your mouth with his hand and dove into the bushes, bringing you along with him. The moment the two of you left that position, 5 bullets were shot at once, from different angles, to where you were standing just milliseconds ago. Your heart was beating violently in your chest, it felt like it was going to burst out of your ribs at any moment. Thomas sensed your fear and rubbed your shoulder, trying to calm you. You appreciated the effort, but all it did was make your pulse beat faster. For a second, there was only silence, and a few quiet, labored breaths from you. Slowly, 5 men emerged from the shadows where the bullets were fired, and you were starting to piece it all together. These men were trying to eliminate you or Thomas, but seeing the way your friend had reacted, it was obviously him. But why? What has Thomas done?

One of the men was wandering dangerously close to your hiding spot, and Thomas let go of your mouth, getting ready to jump out. The man dressed fully in black was stepping closer and closer, you were seconds away from being spotted. He leapt out of the bush, silent as a mouse, tackling the man effortlessly. He pressed firmly against a place in the man's neck, causing him to relax his body and close his eyes. You couldn't believe what you were seeing, did Thomas just kill someone? No, that can't be, he wouldn't do that. Right?

Thomas saw the face you made and whispered to you. "He's just asleep, it's okay." Although, in the silence, it seemed like that whisper was more like a yell. The other 4 men suddenly perked their heads up, raising their guns, searching for the source of the voice. You grabbed Thomas' hand and made a run for it, dashing into an alleyway and climbing a fence.

"Forget about the chips, who the hell were those guys? What's going on, dude?" You asked Thomas while you ran, panting after each sentence. He assured you he would totally tell you everything, but before you could voice your doubtful opinion, you heard someone yell a name. Nikolai? You looked at Thomas, and his expression was something of shock, regret and fear.

After a while of running, you both stopped to catch your breath. You demanded to know what was going on back there, and Thomas tried his best to calm down your frustration before explaining.

"I'm so sorry you got caught up in this mess, I wasn't planning to get found out or get this close to anyone. I'm not Thomas, I'm Nikolai." You stared at him. That explained absolutely nothing. Thankfully, he continued, but grew a heavy Russian accent. "I am Russian infiltrator, as for why I am here... it is complicated. Please do not tell anyone, it is important."

This was for the best, besides, if he wouldn't tell you, it was probably for both your and his safety. This also seemed like something you didn't want to get involved in, those guys tried to kill you!

"I wasn't going to, you're my friend, Thomas, er, Nikolai, I'm sure that for whatever reason you're doing this, it's good. I trust you." You smile, and a twinge of guilt flashes across his face, but is quickly replaced by a reassuring smile.

His Russian accent disappears when he starts talking again. "Thank you, I'll tell you eventually, I promise." You nod, keeping that promise in mind.

"Hey, you better not die or anything, those dudes seemed pretty serious about trying to end you, plus I would miss you." You were light-heartedly joking, except for that last part. Over the time you've gotten to know him, you've grown really attached, he was someone you could always talk to and have fun hanging out with. Even now, when he was exposed to have a deep secret, you still trusted him with your life.

He responded in the same joking manner. "I'll keep you safe."

Thomas' words stuck with you the entire time you walked back to the house with him; you both decided to not grab the chips, it was already 1 AM and everyone was probably asleep by now. You were in the middle of a heated conversation about which flavor of chips were the best, when his phone rang. As he pulled it out, you saw the words "Incoming call from MOM" on the screen.

"You should probably get that, right? We're almost there, I can walk back by myself." You didn't want him to feel obligated to take you back, and every other time his mom called, he always said he had to answer.

He looked at his phone for a minute before putting it back in his pocket and shrugging. "She'll be okay if I don't answer her."

You raised your eyebrows. "Wow, wasn't expecting that one, momma's boy." You laughed, but in the next second, Thomas had you pinned to the ground under him. This was different than when he pinned Muscle Man earlier for calling him the same thing, it was more... intimate. He had his arms placed against the ground next to the side of your head, his knees brushing against the outside of your thighs, and his hot breath fanning against your neck. You could feel your face heating up at the sudden close contact. You were breathless, and Thomas was grinning cheekily at your shocked face. After a few seconds of this, he got off of you, pulling you back up.

"You're so fun to prank!" He was doubled over in laughter while you just stood there, embarrassed. His laughter was so contagious that you ended up laughing as well.

"I'm gonna get you twice as bad, next time." You told him that and you both started walking to the house again. You both said goodnight to each other at the doorstep of the house, your face still burning from what happened earlier. He left to go back to his dorm, and you closed the door, heading up to your room.

It was already almost 2 AM, and you still felt restless after tonight. Maybe, Thomas felt the same way.
