CW: short obsessive evaluation of food
"It took New York to make me a cowboy
Now everybody knows
Even if I change my clothes
Familiar, but strange, like an android
From every gapin' hole
A new garden fully grows from me""Don't worry, he did that before."
Draco had come running over from the side lines when Harry hit the ground. He now stood gathered around the fainted Gryffindor, Harry's friends as baffled as Draco was himself. Apparently, they were baffled for other reasons.
Hermione shot him a nasty look. "What do you mean 'don't worry'?? He fucking fainted, Draco!"
"I know, he did it before. He'll be fine." Draco reiterated dryly.
She nearly slapped him, Ron held them back. She said: "He's not fine! You'd know that if you'd bothered to do anything other than whatever the hell you were doing in those dorms."
Ron turned to them: "Hermione! That's enough."
Draco raised his hands in protest. "We were taking a nap! I didn't do anything! I've been taking care of him just fine, Hermione."
Ron interjected again. "Hermione, Draco's been good to Harry. You know that. He's given him food, he's stood watch while he slept-"
"And now Harry has a concussion, on top of whatever injuries he already has. Speaking of which, did you even bother to let Madam Pomfrey take a look at him?"
Draco shrugged. "I mentioned it to him, he didn't want to."
"Of course, he wouldn't want to! You force him, that's what you're there for!" Hermione bit.
"I don't force Harry into anything. If he's stubborn, so be it."
"Then why bring him here if he's not rested enough to be here?"
Draco scoffed. "It was his choice! How come you didn't catch him before he bust his skull, Hermione? I was over on the bench, you were standing right in front of him!"
"I'm tired!"
"Then for fuck's sake, take a nap!"
Silence fell. All the people left in the Great Hall stared at them. Harry still lay on the ground, nobody having checked on him yet.
Embarrassed, Draco scrambled to his knees and rolled Harry over on his back. Hermione pushed his hands away and checked Harry's pulse. Ron sat next to them, his eyebrows twisting as he looked between Draco and Hermione.
Ron shook his head. "I can't believe you were fighting instead of taking care of your friend. He's supposed to be the most important thing in your life, and you let him drop."
"Oh, save it for group therapy, Ron." Hermione whined.
"That's it. I want both of you gone. I'll take care of Harry." Ron snapped, pushing them both away.
Draco huffed and got up, making his way to Madam Pomfrey. Hermione was taken in by Lee and Ginny, who spoke in hushed tones. Draco could only roll his eyes. He guessed Hermione was over there to complain about Draco snapping again, even though Draco had done nothing wrong.
Turns out, Draco had been right. Hermione could be okay with a world where Draco liked Harry, but the other way around? The end of peace on earth.
Madam Pomfrey hurried over the second Draco got her attention. She nodded and made her way to Harry. Draco followed her back, wanting to help, but Ron pushed him away again.
Madam Pomfrey turned to Draco a final time before he was dismissed altogether. "What did he eat today?"
"He hasn't eaten since breakfast. We were about to." Draco answered.
