[Rewrite In Progress] Chapter 7 - Confrontation II

Start from the beginning

I had to admit, this was quite the amusing sight before me. I stood next to Arthur as I watched my father; uncomfortable and shocked. I guess it was to be expected, after all, this was probably the first time he had felt a fraction of mine and Arthur's aura.

When Arthur finished, he directed my father's attention to me. "What is it Amber?" he asked in curious voice.

I took a deep breath and said in a determined voice, "Dad I want to be an adventurer like Arthur!" He looked horrified for a moment before he finally managed to blurt out a sentence.

"What? No, you can't. It's far too dangerous." He tried to reason with me, but I had already predicted this and made countermeasures.

"Dad, if Arthur can go, why can't I. You know I'm strong enough to look after myself, and I could have a bodyguard like Arthur so you don't need to worry about me. I don't want to just sit here for the next 3 years and wait to go to Xyrus Academy. I want to get some experience." I explained, leaving him no room to say anything else.

Arthur added the cherry on top by saying in a genuine voice, "I'll protect her."

He opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to say something, but gave up in the end. "Ok, fine. But you've got to convince your mother, and you know she won't go down without a fight." he said with a smile. "So, what do you need for your adventure?"

"Thanks dad. And as for my adventure, I'll need some dark blue hair dye and come contact lenses." He nodded at my request. As we were about to leave, Arthur abruptly stopped and turned to face my father.

"Is there anything you would need my help in for in exchange? I would feel bad just asking for this without any compensation." He responded.

"It's fine really. I owe your father a lot, actually. He may be working for me but the way he trains my guards have really lessened the number of problems that happen during the auctions."

This was the actually true. Uncle Rey had become an irreplaceable part of the Helstea Auction Houses. His leadership and charisma amongst the guards he trains is first class. Father owed him when he saved his life. Even with the generous salary that is well above the average and letting his family stay in our house, he probably still felt that it was a bargain on his part. Both Mother and Lilia have been happier now than ever after Uncle Rey moved in with Aunt Alice and had Eleanor. He had always been filled with guilt for not being able to spend as much time with our family as he wanted but things were a lot better now.

"Hmm, speaking of training, that actually gives me an idea," Arthur muttered while looking down. But what he said afterward was something even I couldn't prepare for.

"Allow me to start training your daughter to become a mage." He put down this landmine as if he was just talking about the weather. I gave him a questioning look, but he merely smiled and continued speaking. "I had been meaning to start teaching my baby sister in mana manipulation soon. It wouldn't be too much trouble to include Lilia in these lessons. I noticed that both you and Lady Tabitha are not mages so it might be impossible for her to awaken by herself, but if we start now, I think she'd be able to awaken around the average age."

His statement was met with silence. I looked up to see father drop the stack of papers he had been fumbling with nervously. His face was frozen in place as I could hear his heart beating faster.

"C-can I truly believe what you just said? Can you really allow my daughter to become a m-mage?" He asked after a seemingly long moment of silence.

"Sure. It'll be a long process but it's definitely possible. Er... I will have to ask you to keep the lessons on a low profile though. I would hate to be bombarded with doting parents asking to make their children into mages," Arthur just chuckled, trying to lighten up the tension.

Father nodded furiously after failing to form a coherent sentence. "Sincerely. There would be no greater happiness than seeing both my daughters become mages," he managed to stammer out, tears on the verge falling down.

"Great! Then we'll leave the items we discussed to you! Now, allow us to excuse ourselves out. Sorry for intruding in on your work."
