TBATE - Fated To Rule Together

Just who are these two children? The way they hold themselves. The way they articulate their words. The aura they wield. It's as if I'm standing in front of fellow royalty!

But the look in their eyes and their respectful tone do not match. They spoke to me, the King, as if we're of the same status. No, it's as if they think they are above me, looking down on me like I'm some sort of insignificant pest. It's as if they're almost threatening me.

I ignored the little girl's warning, Amber Helstea I think her name was. Though I was a little scared, I would lose face if I showed any fear or inferiority to some child. A king needs to maintain his composure and keep calm. Even though Sebastian was a loyal guard that had served us for decades, it was beneath me to make this kid give up his pet. And yet, I still promised him beforehand that I would. Who would I be if I were to go back on my word?

I spoke to the little boy. The sharp gaze in his eyes made me flinch. I regained some composure and asked him in an annoyed tone to give up his bond, hoping that it would scare him enough to accept my request. However, what he said surprised me.

"Then let me ask you a question in response, Your Majesty. How much are you willing to sell your children to me?" He asked in cold tone. While the implication of his message towards the King of a country was provoking, this eight-year-old's reasoning and argument fascinated me.

Then, everything went south.

'Do the Royal Knight Guards only amount to this much? To rush in simply because of an eight-year-old's provocation?' I thought. I didn't bring my personal Templar Knights, thinking that there wouldn't be any trouble, but I couldn't have guessed that these fresh trainees would cause this much trouble.

Although it surprised me, I quickly composed myself. What's done is done. If a royal guard was to kill this child, the public might pity him and his family for a couple of days, but ultimately the fault would lie in the child's parents for getting in my way. It was a pity that this kid's family was friends with Vincent. Cutting ties with the auction house owner may turn out to be a bit inconvenient, in the future.

However, what happened next went beyond my expectations. The boy rushed towards the guard at an astonishing speed that wasn't possible without mana.

'This boy is a mage' I thought, bewildered at the sudden revelation. Humans normally awaken at early adolescence. Yet this boy, who was no older than my little Kathyln, was already awakened. He displayed a series of movements that couldn't be more impeccably executed even if a Tempar Knight had done it.

My mind began to race as I began to about the possibilities in the future. This boy, no older than 9 years of age, was already awakened and had fluid and precise movements which could easily knockout a Royal Guard and whose technique easily surpassed a Templar Knight's.

Awakening so early clearly spoke volumes of this boy's potential as a mage. He could easily become of the strongest mages in all of Dicathen. Having him as an enemy would be troublesome in the future. And who knows he might even be an ideal candidate for a lance. I must have this child on my side. Who cares if that worthless oaf, Sebastian, wants this child's bond. All I care about is the well-being of me and my family. And if I have to give it up just for him to get a pet, then I'll kill him myself.

As I was thinking, I heard a scream come from Vincent's other daughter, Lilia. She had a horrified expression on her now pale face, as if she had just seen a dead body. She quickly looked in another direction, while using her body to block the other little child's eyes.
