As he laid motionless with a barbarian bringing him close to his own extinction, Alex's vision turned dark as a small tunnel of light illuminated like a projector. All he could see was Zander's bright face smiling at him. He cherished the barely noticeable dimples on his cheeks and the way his eyes twinkled with excitement.
Alex watched as his short life flashed before his very eyes. Among all the happy and tear filled memories was the empty void of what could have been. His wedding. Retiring from work. Watching his little boy grow old. There was so much left he wanted to do and witness in life, however, he would lose it all because of this one venture.
That wasn't something he was just going to let happen.
Alex groaned as he wiggled his fingers. It was the one part of his body that didn't feel like a million little bugs were eating him from the inside. While he struggled to free his arms, Alex felt a rather hard object in both of his pockets as he searched for something to aid him. He thought that the pockets of the guards uniform that he was wearing were empty.
Despite being trapped under the guards knees, Alex still had enough room to wiggle his fingertips into his pockets.
Every time Alex moved, even an inch, he could hear the guard above him shouting something but it all seemed like incoherent mumbling. All he could hear was a loud and annoying ringing in ears. Pushing past the guard's nonsense, Alex gazed down towards his hands with his swollen eyes. As he felt around in his pockets, Alex felt a cold metal brush against his fingers. As he slipped the metal out of his pockets, the man felt his heart skip a beat. And not in the bad way either.
Alex recognized the device any day. It's unique build that once made him queasy was now his salvation. Lauren must've slipped it into his pockets when she shoved him towards the door. Feeling both the taser and the remote, Alex fumbled around to get them both out of his pocket while the guard was busy shouting.
"I can do this all day." He eventually heard the guard say before spitting next to his bloodied face. "Either you can tell me what the fuck you're up to or I'll happily beat you to a pulp!"
Alex coughed up blood in his attempt to clear his throat. As fresh blood flowed down his chin Alex's grasp on Eric's invention tightened. While he struggled to get words that were loud and clear enough out to be considered coherent, Alex did manage to mumble something in response.
"Speak up!" The guard shouted.
But all of Alex's injuries made such a simple task seem impossible. As he mumbled the same inaudible response, Alex heard the guard shout profanities before lowering his face closer to Alex's mouth.
As Alex went to repeat himself for a third time, the guard tilted his head so that his ear was directly above Alex's blood covered lips.
"F-uck you." The guard was baffled to hear before a strong jolt of electricity shot all throughout his body.
"Argh!" The man shrieked as his body tensed completely in place. As the electricity constricted every muscle in his being, the guard was paralyzed from his head to toes. He let out a pain filled cry while Alex struggled to get up. With a small nudge Alex was able to push the guard off of himself. Landing on his back besides him, the guard laid on the floor like a dying beetle.
As Alex worked his way out from under the guard, he managed to sit up against the table in the center of the office. Leaning against one of the table legs, Alex couldn't help but feel a sadistic nature arise from within as he watched the guard tremble in place.
In a single night this one guard could have ruined all of Alex's plans in life. Revenge was a given. As he slowly moved the taser's current away from the guards side and over towards his heart, Alex couldn't fight away a grin that grew as the guards shrieks intensified.
