Chapter 14 - The actual redemption

Drew, Liam and Henry laughed at Zoey, along with most of the students.

- Good thing I broke up with her last year. Imagine if we were still together? I would've been on the shit with her. Yikes.

- Yeah, bro, - Henry agreed - you made the right choice. And after all, she was cheating on you with someone's grandfather. If you guys were still together, it would be embarrassing as fuck.

They laughed at Henry's joke, and caught themselves having fun out of Zoey's suffering, which became amusing after they broke up.

But, for their surprise, Zoey started crying. Yeah, Zoey started crying.

That seemed disgusting and sad at the same time, but it would also be mean to leave her there alone.

Milly and Drew went towards her, for the jomie's and the club's surprise.

- G-guys? Why are you here? - Zoey grumbled, crying.

- I mean, even though we hate you, we feel bad that you got suspended for the last time... It must feel horrible to know that you have extremely low chances of getting into a good college. - The guitarrist let out.

- Although you deserved it. - Drew snorted.

- I know I deserved it. I'm very conscious that I'm a terrible person.

- So why don't you just... Change?

Zoey widened her eyes in surprise.

- Change? But in exchange for what?

- For having a good relationship with people, of course. Do you have someone you get along with, nowadays? - Drew said.

- Well... I talk to Maria sometimes, but she isn't really my friend...

Milly continued.

- Look, me and Drew aren't going to get you out of the loop, okay? We just feel bad for you. We are not monsters after all. We hate you, but we have compassion. Everyone can change, Zoey. Even you. But you have to change for the pleasure of doing the right thing, not for a reward. Otherwise, your change will not be genuine.

- Milly's right, Zoey. Being a bad person, you push a lot of people out of your life. And being alone out of pride, someday, will turn into a huge guilt. I assume you can take an important lesson from today, right?

- ...Not recording people to blackmail them for revenge?

Drew and Milly look at her in disappointment.
It hit for Zoey right away.

- Okay. I should do kind things for people not expecting something back.

- Well, you're making progress. - Drew admited.

- Thanks, guys. I never thought I would actually get along with you guys.

- To be honest, neither do I. But little by little, you will gain our trust. After all, I think we can all agree that you were awful.

The three laughed.

- Yeah, I was. And, uh... Sorry for bullying you so hard. I didn't understand how much I hurt you. I've always kept in mind that I've caused you anger issues, not gonna lie.

Milly sighed.
- You really did, and that really hurt me. But living hating you is also immature of me. I understand that you're looking to change now, so I'm going to give you a chance. But I will only fully forgive you% when you demonstrate that you have really changed, okay?

- Okay, noted. And, we don't have to be friends if you don't want to, I just wanted us to have a better relationship.

- Fine by me.

- And to you, Drew... I am terribly sorry for cheating on you. I'm not really full of myself deep down, so I just searched for another source of love and amusement; owning expensive things and spending money, which mostly came out of your wallet. I was a terrible girlfriend.

- Glad you realize. But, same as Milly. I'll understand, but only fully forgive when you show progress.

Zoey smiled, genuinly this time.

Well, I focused so much on narrating Zoey's redemption that I didn't even show how things are going with Jake and Hailey... Let's check on them.

In my defense, I began season 3 of The Good Place yesterday, so the progress on the main character of the show (aka Eleanor Shellstrop) inspired me a lot in this chapter.
They are literally the same and no one can tell me otherwise.

Smh. Time flies so damn fast. I started this rewritten version like in March 3rd and I made the original first and only 2 chapters A YEAR AGO.
(In 1 or 2 weeks it will be 1 year since I had the idea to make this fanfic I mean)
