It didn't take me long to reach the building where the infirmary was based. It had been a smart move on UA's part to place all training fields within a short distance of the facility in case of any serious injuries.
I walked by classrooms filled with students eagerly jotting down notes as their teacher spoke, expressions ranging from deep concentration to mind-melting exhaustion. It didn't matter what course they were doing - all students had had it tough this year. Because of us. Guilt gnawed at my stomach. We'd been told it wasn't our fault; it was out of our control what organisations like the League and Shie Hassaikai wanted to do.
But we were heroes, or at least we were meant to be. Up until the School Festival and we played our concert, everyone in the school despised my classmates and I. I had no doubt there was some lingering resentment in one or two students still.
I stepped into the elevator and pressed Level 5 where the infirmary was on. Stop worrying about that. It's not important right now. By the time the elevator dinged and opened, all bad thoughts had been pushed to the back of mind. Still there, just not my problem right now.
Someone exited the infirmary as I approached, the familiar fluffy tail bringing a smile to my face in relief. 'Ojiro!'
He turned my way, surprised, but then relaxed as he returned my smile. 'Oh, hey L/N. What are you doing here?'
'I came to see how you were all doing,' I answered. 'That fight was incredible!'
'Thanks. I think despite neither team winning, we all gave our best and really pushed each other. I just can't believe I let myself be caught like that.'
'Pony was the underdog of that round, indeed.' I patted Ojiro's shoulder gently, eyeing the bandages wrapped around parts of his tail. I hadn't notice them before. A hint of red stained them, but held in place. 'You did amazing, Ojiro. Not a lot of us would've been able to do what you did, so be proud of that.'
He placed a gloved hand upon mine still grasping his shoulder and smiled. It wasn't sad like I thought it'd be. Instead, it held a grateful shine to it. 'Thanks, L/N. That means a lot.'
'SmoooooooCCCHHH!'
We both turned back towards the infirmary entrance at the sound of Recovery Girl's voice. Murmurs of different voices came after, but I couldn't make out what they were saying, or who was even in there.
Ojiro let go of my hand and stepped away. 'You better go in,' he said. 'I'm sure Iida and Todoroki are both awake by now. And they may need saving from Recovery Girl's motherly care. I barely made it out alive myself.'
I rolled my eyes but laughed all the same. 'She's not that bad. You boys are just wimps.'
We both laughed at that. I'd forgotten how easy Ojiro was to talk to.
He began walking towards the elevator as he waved. 'See you back out there.'
'Sure thing. We won't be too long.' I reciprocated his wave before turning and heading for the infirmary entrance. Sliding it open, it revealed Recovery Girl and Iida sitting and talking with Shoto who still laid in one of the infirmary beds. Iida's left foot and arm were in casts whilst Shoto's skin was littered with scratches and burn marks. Probably from the heated metal Tetsutetsu fought with since Shoto couldn't burn himself. Not that I knew of, at least.
'That's a good patient,' Recovery Girl said, pulling some form of snack out of her coat pocket and offering it to him. 'Here, you should have this protein bar. Ojiro just ate his and went back out.'
'Yeah, I just passed him in the hallway. He's looking great,' I interjected, finally stepping into the room. 'You all do, for what you just went through. You've outdone yourself, Recovery Girl.'
