You, Draculaura, and Dracula all sat around a dinner table. A large ham sat in the middle, and small sides dotted the edges of the large, dramatic table topper. You looked around awkwardly, not wanting to make contact with Dracula, who sat threateningly at the end of the table.
"So...you went to the funeral?" He asked, and he bit off a piece on his fork.
"Yes." Draculaura nodded.
You nodded along. "It was a closed casket."
Dracula snorted out a laugh. "I bet so."
You shifted uncomfortably, not wanting to talk about the funeral that had happened a few days prior. You didn't want to even think about it.
The week had snuck up on you and Draculaura, forcing your stay to come to a close. You were to leave the following day to go back home. Saying you weren't ready was an understatement. You knew you had to, but it didn't make the situation any less horrible for you.
Draculaura was going through a similar dilemma. She hated that you had to leave, and she loathed every second she thought about it. She knew you weren't ready. Hell, she wasn't ready! But what could she do? Kidnap you?
Yeah, right.
Draculaura picked at her food silently, looking away from both you and her father.
"What's wrong, Draculaura?" Dracula asked.
You turned to her, just then recognizing the solemn expression she wore. You quirked a brow at her, and she turned away from you.
"I don't want (Y/N) to go, daddy." She whined like a child. "She needs to stay here!"
"She can stay anytime she likes, but I think her mom and dad want to see her."
"I can come back, though!" You exclaimed.
Her watery eyes and puffed out lip switched to a cheery grin. "You will?"
"Y-Yeah!" You were taken back from her sudden personality switch, but it didn't phase you much. You had been around Draculaura long enough to know she had some sort of issues, mentally and emotionally.
She clapped and squealed before taking a large forkful of food into her mouth. You tilted your head to the side.
"When should I come back?"
"Anytime! All the time! You shouldn't ever have to leave." She responded quickly.
"Well, I do have my own family and room." You chuckled. "But I'm more than happy to share with you."
"How about I stay the night at your house?"
"We have school tomorrow, Drac." You reminded, and you took a bite of your food.
"So?" She seemed to bounce in her seat. "I can still stay! And we can get up and get ready for school together!"
You thought for a moment. "Alright, fine."
"There." Dracula smiled. "All better?"
She nodded. "All better!"
Draculaura practically buzzed in her seat. She couldn't wait to stay with you. She would get to see your school routine, and how early you woke up, and how you did your hair, and how you got dressed! She would get to see every side of you, even the ones that she was sure you didn't like.
She couldn't have been more happy. It was so exhilarating to say the least. Dracula had never seen her so happy, and a lightbulb went off in his head.
"(Y/N), I'm sure you would need to pack your bags?" He asked.
You looked at him with wide eyes from the chore you had forgotten. "O-Oh, yes."
"I'll help!" Draculaura yelled.
Dracula shook his head no. "Stay, we need to talk."
You jumped up and scurried away from the table, leaving only Draculaura and Dracula to sit and eat.
"Do you think you're a bit too...clingy?" Dracula asked. "I mean, this girl can't be seen without you."
"She's my best friend." Draculaura defended, and she crossed her arms. "What kind of beasties would we be if we didn't do everything together?"
"You know...these are signs of affection." Dracula smirked. "You love her, don't you?"
"What?! No!" Draculaura screeched. "I-I'm just... She's not....We...ACK! Fine!"
Dracula smiled at his success. "I knew you did."
"It's not weird, is it?"
"Absolutely not."
"You promise?"
"I promise, Draculaura. I think it's sweet. You chose the right girl. I can tell, she's definitely worth the effort you put in her."
To Draculaura, those words were the icing on the cake. You were worth any and all effort.
She grinned happily. "If you say so."
Sure, Dracula didn't specifically say that borderline stalking and making someone commit suicide was effort, but surely he meant it. If he had known the real effort she had put in, the dark effort, the illegal effort, then she was sure he would say the same thing. But just in case, she didn't.
She chose to leave the conversation at that, and she giddily jumped up to run and find you.
She found you finishing your packing, and she stepped in the room.
"Wanna help me pack?" She asked.
You nodded. "Yeah, sure."
You two packed her bags quickly, and just in time for the driver to arrive. She gave Dracula a large hug and grabbed you by the hand.
"See ya later!" She waved, and together you got in the car.
She hugged you excitedly.
"I don't have a guest room, you know." You spoke quietly.
"I know. We can share a bed!"
"O-Okay." You pulled away at her clinging and gave her a soft smile.
Draculaura's grin faultered. You couldn't possibly be pulling away emotionally, could you? After everything she had done for you, you were pulling away? No, now that just wouldn't do. She couldn't have that.
Draculaura's brain scrambled itself for a plan, and as she fried herself to find one, you placed your head on the window.
Draculaura watched. You were totally pulling away. She needed something else to force you with her. She needed a reason for you to need her. She needed a miracle.
But what else could she use?
Her mind came to a halt as one name stuck out.
She knew what to do.
