[Rewrite In Progress] Chapter 18 - Evaluation

Start from the beginning

She was a freckled girl that looked to be well into her teens. She had her curly brown hair tied back and was wearing a standard conjurer's robe that looked more like a fancy bathrobe. She fumbled to get her wand out of her belt, but managed to get in position without dropping it.

Snickers and giggles spread through the arena from the scarce audience, shrinking the girl—Diane—even more so in embarrassment.

"What a waste of time. Just fail this girl," a boy's voice to my left caught my attention just in time for me to see him mockingly shake his head.

I looked over to the source of the voice and saw a boy that looked like our age, which surprised me. I didn't expect anyone else our age to try and become an adventurer. He had medium-length blond hair that covered his ears and was trimmed to set just above his dull, green eyes, it was easy to tell that he was an attractive boy. He was wearing a conjurer's robe that made Diane's robe look like a bathrobe in comparison. By the permanent smirk plastered onto his face and the way he lifted his chin just a tad so he was always looking down at everything, I'm sure he thought of himself as a superstar.

He caught my gaze and his eyes widened a little. He looked at me in awe and a slight blush formed on his face. I smirked and looked away from him. Looks like I still got it! Even if he is enamoured by my beauty, he'll never be able to chase after me. I belong to Arthur, and Arthur alone. Too bad for you spoiled brat! Prepare to be heartbroken!

(E/N: Mommy?)

I looked at Arthur, who was watching the situation unfold in amusement. He chuckled at and raised an eyebrow at me teasingly. I giggled and shrugged. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, and saw that he was still staring at me. He probably thought that I was trying to catch his gaze again because I was interested in him. Oh, how very wrong you are!

I turned my attention back to the arena there the two conjurers were fighting. The girl was decent, she was able to conjure a good enough mana barrier in a fast time. She also had good control over her water element and could manipulate it to a good degree. However, it seemed as she was too confident in to setting up another water barrier once her first one broke. This had cost her the match, but she still ended up getting C-Class, which was feat to be proud off.

Next a boy named Ellijah Knight was called forth, but was evaluated to be B-Class without an examination. I could see looks of disbelief on everyone's faces. Even the augmenter examiner's face was in surprise as he craned his neck to get a better view of the boy in question.

After the arrogant looking boy went up to the arena. I learned his name to be Lucas Wykes. I was surprised to learn, as with everyone else, that he was a light orange at the age of eleven. Either he was really talented, or he had heavily used elixirs and beast cores to boost his core stage.

But, when he started fighting, I could tell that he had the ability to back up his arrogance. He was able to cast a high-level fire spell, and had incredible control for his age.

(A/N: I feel sick for complementing him. Someone kill me.)

(E/N: oh, my plans will make it all the more worthwhile. May his suffering last to the next life)

(A/N: Downforce!)

However, when he got beat, he started raging and causing a ruckus. He only calmed down when he was announced as B-Class and started flaunting his class to everyone. He looked over to my direction and gave me a smirk, which Arthur caught. We both chuckled at his attempt to impress me. I'm such a bad person, playing with a little boy's heart. Who knows, he might not trust anyone after I reject him, because sooner or later, he's going to try peruse me. I should feel bad, but I don't.
